i was thinking this... you can hear the weight of the events in his interpretation. Many have played this well; he plays it descriptively, fitting the impact and feeling of the history. In classical opera they note the same thing about Master Maria Callas. The ability to convey this meaning on top of technical virtuosity makes it above the rest.

he doesnt, theres plenty of recordings of him performing in his late years, i think one thing with any intrusment is knowing how to correctly control and take care of your hands, despite how powerfully and fast his fingers seem to move, they are actually not tense at all, which makes it even more of a feat to achieve
