From what I can see, this Heartless form of Mother ghotel represents her desire for longevity, like trees that are long-lived, and like trees, they need sunlight to live, since in rapunzel she was born by a flower that was born. of the sun. For without that light, they wither and die. And with all the context of the movie, it is implied because she has the design that she has.

I just realized something We actually see someone turn into a heartless. Like not off screen or told in the glossary. No we ACTUALLY see someone become a heartless. No, Scar doesnt really count since he keeps his usual form. Same with Clayton Mother Gothel and Hans we both see become consumed. Somehow that is worlds more terrifying that I expected

The music really captures the sad fate that befell Gothel, regardless of what a horrible and selfish person she was. Instead of being left to fade from memory, Marluxia simply had to turn what little even remained of her into a Heartless.

One thing I have always loved about the Heartless... Although a person may not have physical powers or magical abilities they can use in life, in death, their incredible strength and determination in spirit is reincarnated in its full glory. Though Gothel's lies and fearmongering could not keep Rapunzel away from the outside world, surely a monstrous incarnation of her dark obsession could. In a way, these Disney villains are given a 'second chance' through their deals with the darkness. It's not until this game that I realized it, the demonstrations of the high price of quick power.

That is an interesting way to look at it. The heartless brings out the darkness in their hearts and gives them power at the expense of turning them into monsters. I also find it interesting how both the design and the powers of the villains reflects some aspect of them. The irony in this is that Marluxia wouldn't allow her to keep Rapunzel now, it seems that he turned her into a heartless to ensure that she wouldn't interfere with her anymore. Also to likely test Sora and company.

The Heartless often seem to not only fit particular worlds, but the bosses (Heartless or otherwise) sometimes have traits that match the evils of the characters they come from. One part is the tree-like appearance which shows her desire for longevity. Another part is how part of her fighting style seems to be to try and restrain Sora, Donald, and Goofy and fix them in place much like how she has kept Rapunzel trapped in a tower for years. The people who come up with the designs for the bosses in this game clearly have no lack of creativity.

Actually, Scar did turn into a Heartless as Pete states before fighting him, also he has a shadow aura and doesn't speak anymore. Barbossa and Davy Jones didn't turn into Heartless either.

Ansem is Xehanort's heartless, Sora had a Heartless, Scar revived himself as a Heartless and then became a bigger Heartless, Oogie Boogie went through a process that seemed to be turning him into a Heartless, Maleficent's dragon form from KH1 was implied to be similar to a Heartless.

Deshawn Edwards That and also Coco, but I’m not sure how they would work with Bellwether cause she would be a very ineffective boss as she ONLY relied on her Ram Guards and temporarily used a Night Howler pistol (which is actually Blueberries). So either she has a Heartless assisting her (in the vein of Clayton and Barbossa) or she gets turned into a Heartless like what happened with Gothel and Hans.

Thinking about it... I kinda imagine on how her fight could be: before she shot the bullet, a snake-like Shadow appears behind her, and then, when she looks back, she found a (Voodoo) doll that resembles her, then grabbed it and then she kicked it... after the doll falls, the snake-shadow thing appears as it’s manifest from the doll, and then, it bites Bellwether's head (and body), then it’s slurp it and shoots Bellwether's glasses at sora, then the shadow starts to manifest its final form, it’s final form will look like a (overly, demon like) sheep, with some quimical stuff from it. I still needs to find an name and appearance for that heartless...
