Ken Green was my Junior High School Band Director at Elm Grove, just south of Bossier City. He was relentless and demanded excellence even at the end of his career. I was so fortunate to have him as my band director. Later I was the band director at Parkway High School and Mr. Green was a private lesson teacher for me. He was influential in my career and pushed me to practice.

I was in this band at the sugar bowl...trombone. The band also was invited to NY that year to march in a parade there. The esprit de corp was remarkable, mostly due to the unbelievable competence and leadership of Mr. Green, who everyone had enormous respect and fondness for. He worked out every member's part, down to the point of EXACTLY what note of the music and the yardline on which you turned (and your heel, not your foot, had to hit the line exactly!) A remarkable man..hope he's well.

Yes, Mr. Green was a fabulous educator. He later came to Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, TX as band director. I wish you the best of luck. Your kids need to know that there is a proud tradition of excellence that they should feel obligated to uphold.

I, too, am a graduate of the BHS Band. Truly, the most life-changing thing in my 62 years. Ken Larsen took over a year or two after this. Both are dead now. Great men, great leaders, great teachers. They taught far more than music and marching. I thought I would never see this again. Thanks to David for posting. By the way, Ken Larsen destroyed the original film. I was his friend until he died. Never explained except "that's in the past". Larry Powell MD

1960 was a different time for Bossier High School, for it was the only school in Bossier City. The leadership of Ken Green was amazing. He was a master teacher and demanded excellence each and every day.

I remember watching this on TV. Wasn't Mary Ellen Banfield the drumb major? I wish football games still showed the entire half time band performances!
