Roxrite definitely deserved that. He was clean with his moves although not as flashy as lilou but had a better solid style. Lilou on the other hand was killing it as well. imo he took the second round and couldve won if he dint repeat his continuous thread combo and if he dint crash a few of his moves in the first and third round. Understandable why it was a controversial battle. Props to both the bboys. Amazing battle even after rewatching it after 8 years☺

Here's the thing...both showed good footwork, power, and some toprock. So lets assume they were close in those categories. But, Lilou didn't do a single freeze. I say this because even when he did an airchair or other freeze-type move, he just rolled right through it. Yeah the constant motion looks good and all, but maybe try actually freezing the last one to show you can really control it. Roxrite, on the other hand, is all about the clean freeze. So there's your victor.

Repeating a move isn't necessarily bad. Repetition is one of the five important elements. The other four being, Levels, Dynamics, Space and Direction.

@RockedSolid Roxrite wasn't even slow. That footwork is plenty quick. If you go too fast with footwork, it will begin to look sloppy and you won't be able to tell what the person is actually doing. But I do agree with you, Roxrite was so smooth and fresh in this event, I would LOVE to see him back in it for 2011.

Why am I seeing people posting comments hatin on Roxrite? Dude's got impeccable flow and an impressive resume from years on the floor. Think about this...Lilou, in every round, brought out a host of his more explosive signature moves in attempts to beat Rox. He happened to crash and repeat (often suicidal) and that's what cost him. My point is if Lilou respects him enough to play it that hard, then you damn well should too. Peace

Very unlucky for Lilou, he was very fluid and was deffinitely giving it his all with his massive array of moves and variation. Roxrite is a great bboy none the less but I think this battle was slightly more in favor of Lilou's "Fresh" performance

everybody, lilou got more clean than in 05. He just doesnt do the airchairs as much, and is now doing some hella sick inversions of the baby freeze. Hes equally good at both. Its just different style, not the reduction of quality.

lilou is much more explosive, and this is where it gets tricky cuz he simply crashes a lot and his last run was repeating what he did before with a bad crash at the end and no point made. Roxrite played it safe, he was strategic> keep it simple and clean. So i agree that he ísn't the most energetic type to watch, but he's smart by compensating his technical skill with his cleaness and flavour.

why so many hate against roxrite? he's a very respected bboy, hella clean and with a great style, why so many ppl are calling him boring? btw his moves arent simple, he makes em look simple because he executes em perfectly. Hes not one of my fav bboys,actually I used to like more lilou, but I think that rox took this one, lilou is creative, but he's rpetitive, even with his varietions, and too sloppy, not sayin his moves are easy, but this was one of his worst battles. bboy is about footwork, licking the beat, landing freezes, being clean in general. lilou is my favorite bboy. but roxrite was cleaner, didn't repeat as badly but he did repeat his halo/transition headpsin. but lilou repeated his air chair treads really hard. he only landed a freeze once. while roxrite had it going with his freezes, transitions and he was more unpredictable. and difficulty in bboying is not about how hard it is to do a flip/tread airflare headspin, it's mostly about being clean.

I'm not 2 crazy on powermoves but i believe the best bboys have a wellrounded combo of style, power,rhythm and timing wit there moves, and they gotta incorporate all 4 elements of bboying(Toprock, Footwork, Powermoves & Freezes) no matter wat ur style is, 2 much of anything loses points. Ronnie & Taisuke and my favorites but Lilou shud of won. Roxrite isn't all that n Ppl need to hop of Hong 10 cuz he aint all that.

Roxrite had perfect flow all three sets. He emphasised movements over moves (which is really the difference between dancing and gymnastics) Lilou's first set was too much CC's and for down rocking (like he couldn't hear the song). His second set was really awesome. You can see how free he was in his movement and was really feeling the song. The last set after those threads he had the right approach but he lost control of himself (difficult to see what he was trying to do) Awesome battle!

well he won red bull bc one one 2005 and a lot of competitions all over the world he has a musicality,creativity and an energy that only 5 or 6 other bboys have, he's world famous for his skills and signature moves...imao i think he should have won because both bboys repeated their stuff: Roxrite was cleaner but he did headstands...Lilou's sets gave me something more in my opinion. He may have a bad attitude but he's definetly one of the rawest styleheads ever seen

Lilou is a great Bboy and I remember thinking he he had this in the bag right when I saw the matchup, but he was off his game in this one. He crashed in the middle of his first set and his last set looked kinda sloppy and desperate, while Roxirite was clean and creative all the way through.

I hate to get into youtube comment exchanges but I must reiterate: Lilou repeated his move. Normally, the no-repeats rule applies for a bboy throughout the entire competition. In this case, he did the move directly after he had messed up his first attempt. You can practice like how you battle, but you can't battle like how you practice. It's a repeat. He didn't do it later on in the third round, that thread combo airchair was ill. He did in the first round. I hope I clarified things for you.

theres two ways you could judge this, one of them lilou would win, and the other roxrite would win. if your judging on purely amazing shit and out of this world moves, lilou wins. if your judging on actual full performance, execution and what not. roxrite wins. im a huge lilou fan... but roxrite ripped it. flawless performance and his freeze's are very nice. hats off to him

Lilou had harder moves, but was more repetitive and lacked decent footwork from what I can tell in this battle. Roxrite wasn't pulling moves that were as difficult as Lilou, but he had better foundation and thus his dance as a whole had more variation and completeness.

Elements of hip-hop battle tactics 1 Toprock/flavor- kinda have to give it to roxrite, lilou just wasn't lilou this battle 2. Downrock/harnessing the energy-benefit of the doubt we'll just say lilou cause it was fast and kinda cool 3. Freezes/cleanliness- .... Roxrite no question 4. Power- Roxrite. He did the same move but executed several variations and combo's(that goes a long way) lilou was more versatile but he struggled and was kinda unorganized. IMO 2nd best battle that competition.
