Bostock reservior is a beautiful fishing destination for redfin and trout. This location is in Victoria between Ballan heading towards Daylesford. In this episode we venture up to Bostock Reservoir flicking a range of lures and baits to target some redfin and stocked trout.
This reservoir has recently been stocked with 7,000 rainbow trout fingerlings as part of the state governments target 1 million by 2020 and target 10 million by 2022 to improve fishing around Victoria.
We fished for 2 hours only catching 2 small redfin and countless rainbow trout fingerlings. Caught on powerbait, worms, and small soft plastic and wobbler or spoon lures.

Fisheries sure are doing a great job at the moment. Mass stocking in many systems around Vic. We didnt catch anything substantial but If anything this video just captures how good the fishing will be down there in years to come. Thanks for the positive message !!

Ripper video. Some great fish in there but can be very hard to fish. Good to see the water up, was very low over summer. Agree will be a great fishery in a couple years with that stocking!

Thanks Jonathan. Yeah Bostock can be a tough place to fish. I have fished it a few times and only ever pulled out 1 decent fish which was a massive brown trout. Its great the water levels are up and hopefully in a few years time it will be a top place to fish with all the stocking. Thanks for your comment.

yeah, i saw a big brown last time I was down there crossing the road as we were driving into the car park. I have seen a couple of good reddies from there, but only caught small ones myself. Yeah it should be a great place to fish in years to come.

Well done mate What size spoons we're you using? Good video, I will try the local dams. What other bait's would you use? Cheers John
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks John, I was just using a strike pro bob n spoon, small bullet lures, and Savage Gear slim minnow. All were catching. Baits didn't get much of a touch which is very unusual for a stocked lake. worms and powerbait are hard to beat. I fished ferntreegully on the Monday and caught heaps on bait that can be seen here kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWeYg6mwrNuZqbs

Great spot Bostock. I live in Ballan, so not very far from me. I have seen Bostock almost dry and overflowing. Bostock is part of Barwon water supply greater Geelong. Bostock is situated between Ballan and Gordon.

Alan, you can get the yak out onto the newly opened lakes :) I’m hoping the weather is ok this Sunday and get the yak out to upper coliban Thanks for the video

Yeah, i'm very excited about that. I have another kayak on the way very soon ( which is exciting news ) and plan on hitting all 5 lakes recently opened over the coming month or two. Let us know how you go at Upper Coliban it can be a tough spot to fish during winter,

Agreed !!. I have been doing a lot in the boat, but really missed the kayak. Now with these new lakes opening there is endless possibilities. Definitely got some kayak vids coming in the coming months and feel that I have learned a lot about fishing and filming in the time, so should have some great stuff on the way soon.

It looks fairly rocky. Was it worth using a float to avoid snags?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Its not to bad there, didn't loose any lures or rigs with bait that day. When the water levels are right down then often your casting right into rocks and snags, but overall its OK. A float would certainly work well there especially for trout.

This really needs kayak access!!!
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 3 жыл бұрын
100% agreed, I think it forms part of the drinking water up there, but kayak access would be epic.

Hey mate, are you allowed to kayak in this reserve ?
@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
No unfortunately, its a real shame as it would be a beautiful place to kayak with really good parking and access. VFA have opened quite a few to kayaking in 2019 hopefully this is on there list of places to open up soon too.

@fishingmad
@fishingmad 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah its pretty close to being back at capacity. Its a great sight. I remember being there 2 years ago and having to walk way away down to reach the water. At one stage I could almost cast over the water as the levels were so low. Hopefully good water levels and continual trout stocking will see this spot firing soon.

You no how to land fish and I admire you for that but watching some of your shows like other fishing presenters you do not always land fish the right way. I have been fishing a long time on this earth I was fishing when you were in nappies. Some times you Land fish the wrong way by lifting them out of the water you should always land them in a net or put your hands under neath them. By lifting them out of the water you damage their gill rakers and damage their internal organs this is not a good example your showing to seasoned and up and coming anglers. I no what I’m talking about I have a degree in marine science so please land all of your fish the right way. Regards. Laurie of the Loddon.
