It was. The tension was so palpable. It remains the most iconic finals in league history because every play felt like life and death and because it was the ultimate culture clash. It made the NBA a sports juggernaut where it had heretofore been a league with that kind of potential.

Definitely the best. All those teams,Phiĺy, Detroit tough in the east. Even NY. Great days my friend.
@ezsmith3765 Жыл бұрын
The East bracket was always so tough for Boston. The 76ers were tough as hell in the early 80s then the power shifted to the Pistons by the later 80s. The Bucks, Hawks, Knicks all 5 of those teams were tougher than any team the Lakers had to face in the West bracket. LA was always breezing through the west, all healthy and rested after sweeping teams like the Kings, Nuggets, Mavericks. They’d be sitting and waiting on Boston to finish up a 7 game WAR with Philly, ATL or MIL. And LA STILL lost to Houston in ‘81 and ‘86 😆🤣 The ONE TIME an East team breezed through to the finals (Philly in ‘83) and LA got their asses 🧹🧹🧹🧹💨💨 The Celtics, 76ers and Pistons were always beating the hell out of each other in the East giving LA that Western Conf 🎂CAKEWALK🎂 With LA losing to Houston in ‘81 & ‘86 Philly in ‘83 Boston in ‘84 Detroit in ‘89 There’s NO WAY the Lakers win 5X had they been in the East.

7:06 Orlando Woolridge with the rare, pre-Eastbay between the legs dunk. Isaiah Rider made it famous in 1994 and kinda gets all the credit for that type of dunk early on. This is cool footage. I’m really enjoying all these classic uploads of the championship documentaries. Thank you! 👍🏻 …10:33 and that cheesy rap song… 😬😆😉

Not true actually because Laimbeer was an All-Star reserve in 83-84 and as The story goes, every time Larry would go onto the bus, Bill would say “good morning Larry” which Bird would respond ”fuck you bill”

@Mrd9960 Жыл бұрын
@@MaximusWolfeDefinitely, most people on here say the Lakers choked it away, but that's not true, the Celtics had the best record in the NBA that year and home court, they the Celtics not the Lakers were the ones who didn't play their best, the first few games, then they finally put DJ on Magic, which totally changed the momentum of the series, that game 4 overtime win, was the biggest win of the series, clutch and I mean CLUTCH shots in the last 2 minutes of that game, I always thought Parish's rebound and put back, over Kareem and the foul shot, was the biggest score of the game, because they were down, 113-108 with under 1 minute to go, if Parish missed that rebound and shot, they don't win that game, huge play!

Imo Magic and Worthy ended up losing the series for LA. If Big game James ( not just yet in 83,84) doesn't make that bone head cross court pass that Gerald Henderson stole and laid it up and in , if he just got it to an open teammate Laker's would have gone home with a commanding 2-0 lead but because he gagged it's 1-1 going back to LA. Game 3 Lakers put on a clinic at home with that fast break tempo absolutely kicking the Celtics asses on both ends of the court. We all know what Larry Bird said about himself and his teammates after that game. But in game 4 (Lakers should have really been up 3-0) in overtime Magic misses two absolutely essential free throws, the biggest free throw misses of his basketball career from the very first time he ever stepped onto a basketball court, if he had hit at least one he would have tied the game if I remember correctly, Magic also made a crucial turnover on a very unlike Magic moment when he lazily passed the ball to a teammate that Robert Parish easily stole that setup a Bird fallaway shot over his arch rival Magic Johnson putting the Celtics ahead for good and winning game 4 tieing the series going back to the sweltering , swamp ass no AIR CONDITIONING but ever so classic the Boston Garden for game 5 where this time and really the only game of the whole series the Celtics behind a huge game from the Legend himself beat the Lakers soundly, Pat Riley(imo one of the NBA 's greatest coaches)himself said it that Larry Bird was the big difference in the Celtics winning game 5 putting the Celt's up 3-2 going back to LA where the Celtics kept up a good tempo with the Lakers but lost with the series now tied 3-3 headed back to,,,,,,, you guessed it, The Boston Garden! The Celtic's as we all know win game 7 in a pretty tight game throughout giving them banner #15. This was an amazing, incredibly entertaining NBA finals that if you got to watch you were so blessed, being from Boston I was a huge Celtics fan and had the utmost respect for the LA Lakers, they were so good, absolutely stocked with talent and HOF players and I have no problem admitting the 83,84 Lakers were the better team in this series that with some crucial turnovers if they didn't happen, Celtics very well could have gotten swepted, but anyway you slice it, dice it, Lakers would have won that series,, amazing what those turnovers did to the psyche of the LA Lakers,,, I think I speak for thousands,,, so miss this brand of NBA basketball,,,, thank you for reading all you Celtic's/Lakers/NBA fans of all generations, God Bless each and everyone of you!!!!!!! 😃
