Tom Scholz was an Electrical Engineer and designed and made electrical equipment to modify the sounds of the guitars. This is why Boston had such a unique sound. They were the only ones with this equipment, and it was all in Tom's basement. When they recorded their next album in an actual studio Tom had to bring his equipment to the studio to get the same sound. Tom also wrote all the songs, words and music, and played all the instruments.

So they werent a band.
@1001Hobbies2 жыл бұрын
@@googlefashists4986 - In reality, no. It was two guys in one of the guy's basement. They had to hire other musicians to perform on tour after they got their record deal. There are videos on KZbin about this. There are interviews with Tom Scholz where he talks about this, and he even shows the equipment in his basement where this all happened. When they were ready to record their second album Scholz told them he would bring his equipment to the recording studio that the record company wanted them to record in. He was told the studio has their own equipment. Tom told them "Not the equipment that makes the sound that we have, because I made it. It has to be there." (Not an exact quote but paraphrasing) This is why nobody else sounds like Boston, particularly the guitars.

GUY! You've taught this old man a lesson. I was 21 years old when this album came out. Just went in the U.S. Air Force Feb 77. You couldn't get away from this album. It was played everywhere including all the recreation centers at Lackland AFB. Every dance for the troops played nothing but Boston. Now the lesson you taught me at 67 years old. The way to listen to any and I mean any music. Get a good set of headphones. Find a nice quite place. Darken the lights. Grab a good glass of wine. Comfortable chair close your eyes turn volume up. Close your eyes. Get lost in the music. This is the way to re listen to these gems from the 70's. Thanks for showing me the way to listen. It moves the soul. Just like the first time. The memories come flooding back some good some bad. It doesn't get any better than this. Love your reviews and to see your reactions. They have me in tears

The sound of the guitar that you are referring to that is in this song and is used in Nirvana, Teen Spirit is called a dead strum where they mute the strings while continuing to strum the rhythm. There are a lot of cool, rhythmic things done with dead strums. It’s used in America’s music. You can hear it especially in Tin Man, and in the middle of Stairway to Heaven….

1976, the Bicentennial. In my opinion the greatest year in rock music. Boston, Kansas, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Bad Company, Blue Oyster Cult, Heart, Steely Dan, Steve Miller Band, Queen, Thin Lizzy, Eagles, Rush, Boz Scaggs and the Doobie Brothers would all release killer, classic albums in 1976. Unfortunately, on the horizon was the darkness we would come to know as Disco which would pollute the airwaves for the next 3-4 years.
@karlschmitt63598 ай бұрын
I agree with you about disco polluting the airwaves! I know I'll probably get flack from this, but rap is worse in my opinion! I agreed with all of your classic rock bands you listed with the exceptions of Fleetwood Mac and Queen; I've never been a fan of either of those groups.
