This is an actual story of mine. When riding the T make sure that you yield the handicapped seats to people who need the seat. I was on crutches, riding on the orange line and I was trying to get to the handicapped seat when 2 young adults ( 20 year old) cut in front of me, he sat down in the seat and she sat on his lap making out.

August 1st The new tap readers appearing around the system will go live. Then you will be able to tap and go with a contactless card or smartwallet. Also little tip. If you plan on ridding 5 or more times in one day Get the unlimited ride 1 day pass. The total will be less than the 5+ rides done. It’s so worth it after using the system consistently in one day. Plus, simply put, don’t buy a paper ticket. Always get a reloadable card

I live near the Woburn Commuter Rail Station. If I am going to be bouncing around Boston doing the tourist thing, I will buy the one day ticket and take the commuter rail in and back. It really is the cheapest way to get around in the Boston area. Also parking in Boston can cost you a full days wages.

Usually alot of passengers dont pay their fare when boarding on street level for the green line. For the new extension there are no fare gates. Sometimes the Blue Line is free when the Summer Tunnel closes.

Hot tip, Charlie cards can be used for multiple people. Get 3 or 5 days unlimited. We traveled as a family of 5 and the T employee told us to do this. Just line up back to back swipe and everyone walk through quickly. Boston was a blast!

This was super helpful! I’m visiting this weekend and flying into the airport with arrival around 9:30am. Right now I have that I need to get on the bus to the blue line station, buy a ticket, then walk to the inbound side to the government center towards Bowdoin, getting off at the aquarium stop. Is this the best way to get from the airport to downtown? I’m coming from Florida and have never experienced public transportation like this before.

That is exactly how to get to Aquarium from the airport!! You’ve got it! Would be really interested to hear how it goes for you. At 9:30AM there shouldn’t be a terrible amount of traffic if you did want to pay a bit more for an Uber, although the Sumner Tunnel is closed this month for construction, which increases the chance of traffic at any time.

Paying for a subway ride includes a transfer to one of the regular busses. Also If you pay for a bus ride(they're cheaper) then pay for a subway ride what you paid for the bus is deducted from what you're charged for the subway.

Announcements are made as trains approach, and there are signs with realtime updates as to when the next train will arrive. Unless it’s an incredibly packed time for the T, you can just sit back and wait for the train to stop, then board.

Do the single one way tickets include free transfers to buses or other trains as long as you're going in the same direction? I ask because in Los Angeles, the one way fares include a 2 hour free transfer to buses or another line as long as you're going in the same direction. Thanks.

Yes! (Mostly) Had to confirm on this one, and per the MBTA website: “For Local Bus, Express Bus, Silver Line, and/or Subway, transfer up to two times and pay only the cost of the highest-priced service. For example, you will pay one subway fare to ride the subway, a local bus route, and another local bus route.”

I'm flying in to Boston from Chicago at the end of July. How do I get to Marblehead from the airport? I searched on Google I'm just wondering, does the Charlie ticket work on busses also?

CharlieTicket works on buses! You get two free bus transfers on a Charlie Ticket. Marblehead is about 30 minutes from the airport. You should be able to get an Uber. If that’s super expensive, you could take public transportation to the North Station and take the commuter rail to Swampscott or Salem (depending on where you’re staying in Marblehead) and catch an Uber from there.

​​@@MrsAdamsmary68 You can also take a shuttle from the airport to Airport Station on the Blue Line. Take the Blue Line to Wonderland, and then take the 441 or 442 bus routes to Marblehead. But, taking an Uber is also an option as well.

Can you explain what the difference is between a 1 day linkpass and 1 day commuter rail zone 1a pass?
