Bought a Montauck 17 in 1998 with trailer and 90hp Merc. Keep it 18 years, used on fresh water, garage stored and sold it for $500.00 less that what I paid for it new. Loved that boat. Too much skin cancer in my older years so I cannot spend much time in the sun.

Love these boats! I coach sailing and one of our coach boats is an older 170 montauk. A great boat! Unfortunately due to untrained staff our Mercury engine is nearing its end. But no worries we are looking at new engines

Hi Mr. Kempers. I hope all is well with you in the beautiful Netherlands. I purchased a used 2018 Whaler Montauk 170 today. I own a 2012 Montauk 150, but I think this boat is going to be a huge upgrade in seakeeping ability and performance for me. Your review was excellent and helped me make my decision. I chose one with the full rails because I boat here in Boston Harbor in Massachusetts and the frequent heavy swells would probably result in me going overboard on occasion with the low rails. The great thing about the 170 is I still have the ability to take her on all the freshwater lakes and rivers I love. It's a very versatile design. It can handle big seas but can still be easily trailered to a lakes and rivers. The best of both. Not many boats can excel at both fresh and saltwater. This boat can. All my best to you. And I think you speak excellent english! Don't listen to those critics. I can't speak a word of dutch, but I say "bedankt" to you.

Hello Tim, thank you so much for your positive remarks. I feel honored that our review helped you take the decision to buy a Boston Whaler 170 Montauk, congratulations! We have not been selling many Montauks lately as we have been hit by a 25% US/EU trade tariff, which has finally been lifted as of january 1st. So I truly hope to be seeing/delivering/testing more Boston Whalers, we still all love these iconic boats. I wish you lots of fun with your Montauk, warm regards from The Netherlands! Bart Kempers

@@chadmiller253 - very much. For what I like to do- fish for stripers, bottom fish and island hopping, it’s always up to the task. So fun to drive. In right weather can go miles offshore safely. Easy to keep clean and maintain. Very expensive but worth it to me

Great video and very informative regarding the new model features. We had a “Montauk 17” over 40 years ago when I was a kid so many happy hours spent doing all things skiing,fishing, fast runs and just cruising but always felt safe in that boat!!! Well done on your 60th anniversary!!!

Outstanding review. Thank you. I just bought a 2021 Montauk 170 with a 115 hp Mercury. I look forward to putting it in the water next spring. I have been a lifelong sailor so this will be a big change for me. Going from a 41 foot sailboat to a 17 foot fishing boat will also be an awakening! I just like the idea of keeping it in my garage and saving on those huge slip fees and being stuck in one location. Wish me luck! 😀

I like these boats. My boat club has several and they are nice stable, no frills boats. They have a lot of nice features for a fishing boat with all non slip surfaces and the boats are stable, even in some pretty good chop.

Great job. The iconic classic. I consider it the greatest fishing boat ever made. And you drive it like a boss! I have a 2012 150 Montauk currently that I love, but am considering going up to a new 170 to go further out in ocean.
@Kemperswatersport4 жыл бұрын
Hi Tim, thank you for your positive remarks. And yes, it is an iconic classic. Your 150 Montauk is already a great boat and would be very easy to sell in The Netherlands at the moment. And personally I would look at the 190 Montauk since that is self bailing, so that it is an even easier and safer boat than the 170. It depends on your budget of course but perhaps it would be wiser to wait another season, and then upgrade to a 190. Warm regards from the Amsterdam area! Bart Kempers

Is that boat able to ride intracoastal on Satudays? I’ve never seen water that flat in my life. Do salesmen have a contract with God to make water flat ? I’d like to see that boat reviewed offshore in ocean and not a flat lake. Even a flat bottom Carolina skiff runs grear in that water.
@Kemperswatersport6 жыл бұрын
Solar Fry in my experience the 170 can handle quite a lot of water and weather. We choose these conditions where possible since it is unsafe to use a drone in strong winds and getting proper audio a big challenge. Please test any Whaler at a dealership. We are close to Amsterdam and sell these great boats to people using them in The Netherlands and Belgium. Bart Kempers

Hi, thanks for good video and review . I have some questions, first what is fuel consumption of cruising speed and what is cruising speed with 115 horse power or this motor on test, how many horse power you suggest for this boat,is this boat better than old model 17 outrage ? If I buy this boat i will use it on adriatic sea for fishing. Thanks for your promt answer.Best regards.

Thanks , can you please answer is this boat better than the one boston whaler -old model 17 outrage .People love this model because it was the smaller model of outrage and his behaviour on the sea was great. Can we compare this too models.Thanks .Best regards.

Kristian čačić yes, even though the previous model was a great boat, the new model is wider, has a slightly deeper V hull, and a built in fuel tank.

@@Kemperswatersport the question is about comparing older "Outrage 17ft" to the new 2018 Montauk 170. I think your answer compared older Montauk 170 to the newer Montauk.

I've been looking at the 170 and 190. The Montauk 170 with some options: 115 hp/Fisherman's package/live well/electronics/marine radio/better trailer/exterior paint upgrade is about S45,000 USD. The 190 with similar upgrades including 150 hp is $55,000 USD (at least in the USA). They're probably more in Europe.

@Kemperswatersport Жыл бұрын
Hello Skip, I'm happy that we managed to make you laugh. I weigh around 175 lbs but you're right; to show the stability you'd need more weight. But still, try doing this on other boats, you will notice the difference. Better yet, bring a few of your friends and come to us or your local dealer, and try it yourself.... Warm regards from The Netherlands! Bart Kempers

@@KemperswatersportHi Bart, I didn't expect you would see the post and hope it didn't offend you. I have a 2001 BW Dauntless 16 that weighs about 100Kg less than the Montauk 170 and can tell you this is the main reason I bought this boat. The stability. I weigh about 5Kg more than you and can step on this boat with very little heeling. My wife is now heaver and can get in and out. If it were any other boat of it's class it wouldn't be the case. It would tip to the point of her falling in. She would have to step down into the floor of the boat from the dock. Warms regards, USA
