Time was that you could hardly step into a restaurant of any note in Boston without coming across someone like Lunardi -- knowing you like a friend, greeting you with a deferential nod, leading you to your preferred table in the corner.

The gangster of hospitality. I feel like, just about no matter what your job is, this guy is showing you the best way to conduct your working relationships. The other day, I was just saying how a good doctor might see dozens of patients on a given day, but he treats you like his only patient. Exactly what this man is saying.

I remember as a child walking into the restaurant to visit my dad and admiring him. I would watch him interact with his clients, and see the love in his eyes and smile on there faces at "Hello". I was proud and grew to emulate him in my life's work. He taught me to not only love what you do but to love people and crave to know them and learn them, this creates compassion with genuine relationships. May the next generation follow in the footsteps of my dad and all that made the bygone era "the good old days"'.

I would love to know what line of work you went into. I started professional life as a psychotherapist and wended my way down a twisty path into tech support for municipal government. It doesn't seem related, does it? But I try to do my job as this maitre-d' does his. His example is very meaningful to me.

Frank was always a class act. From the Dini restaurant days he was a kid "Frankie" Everyone loved him and his Father what a fine Gentleman always. Taught his son all he knows.
