Scientific consensus means more or less this: "currently, to the best of our current researches, measurements, and so on, that's a X% probability that the things are like this" (to keep it simple, I don't put into the formula politics and economy and lobbying and corporate interests funding certain researches worldwide, because it'd be hard to make a general picture in a comment; anyway, they are there to make the "consensus" very much less certain and granted.) This is light-years far away from saying "the science is settled". If you say this, you are stepping out of the science. And if you don't realize that because "well, but there's a consensus!" is the same to you, then you damage scientific research and advancement, and I suggest you the reading of books on the history of science, scientific errors in modern age, and of course epistemology essays.

What is understood and where there is no contraversy among experts is that CO2 is causing an increase in global tempurature and the current increase in tempurature is largely anthropogenic. What the future will look like, impacts, how various systems of climate work... all of this is being refined and is full of uncertainty.

I was hired by the University of Maine, while a student, to test New England lakes for acidity levels. When I read the study I saw how they skewed the test to obtain the results that could only say acid rain in a problem. I challenged the presiding professor. Sure enough He admitted that they needed to prove that acid rain is problematic only because they were up for a ten million dollar grant. They confirmed, based upon my sample collections, they were going to submit fraudulent test results to the EPA purely to gain funding. When I refused to sign off on their skewered test results, I was promptly fired. How many other false narratives have Universities created solely to pocket from the government?

The USA, was covered in a glacial sheet of ice across our Northern borders 10,000 years ago. The ice for some reason melted and receded to the north. Those glaciers carved out our Great lakes and their melting filled them with trillions of gallons of fresh water. So the real conundrum is, what made them melt? Jack Gray I was first told about climate change by one of my primary school teachers in the 60’s, he MUST have been a part of the early Ecology Movement to be that aware back then. He said scientists didn’t know if the pollution would trap the heat and cause a greenhouse effect, or the opposite and stop the Suns heat from passing into our atmosphere, thereby causing an Ice Age instead. Back then in the 60’s it wasn’t obvious which way it would go, as we was still getting regular heavy Snowfalls in winter in London. But since the 80’s it has become obvious that CO2 and other ghg gasses are trapping the heat and have caused a warming effect.

As a consultant I traveled the world, worked 2 years in Turkey, Malta, Poland and in my 50 years on this planet I only see that things better. The more people the better the technology, we less and less poverty and more and more prosperity. We cultivate more food per M2 as technology proceeds. What a do sometimes encounter is people that think there is a limit and I always wonder if people think this way what are they willing to give up themselves. Unfortunately most of these kind of people don't want to give up anything yet expect others to drive less cars, eat less meat or travel less. In 500 years if we proceed to grow we will have people living on the moon, maybe even Mars, robots will be harvesting the asteroid belt for other resources and maybe we will discover other things in the universe that will progress humanity. I don't live for myself, I live for the people I work with and hope they become also prosperous and have a good life. I don't deny that we have challenges in front of us. Bud this climate communists mentality has to go. So, I don't think we are on the same level.

Our work experiences might also overlap a little as I work as an international consultant; originally based on Australia but in Monaco the last 8 years and frequently doing business in Warsaw also. I also don’t want to given up anything and change how I pollute the planet, and I never asked anyone else to change. In this sense I’m consistent and in some sense innocent, as you are. Yet the systemic effect of everyone living this way is aparantly going to cause a mass extinction. Life is getting better - I agree emphatically. When I wrote taking without constraint, I meant this not in a greedy sense but just as a matter of fact - living without limits and doing what makes us feel good - including of course our relations. But I meant we should live without restriction on our freedom so even if that destroys the planet (which seems likely) we shouldn’t put attention on that, as there is a chance things will be okay, and we should enjoy life whilst the environment is stable for the next couple of generations. The generations after that - I think it is their job to do deal with catastrophe, and if they need limits on freedom that is their problem - but until we see it happening, we should go on living without restraint. That is calitalism and freedom as I’m taught. As for living on the moon, it will need to be space stations as we can adjust the gravity to suit us. We would just become inpossibly ill on the moon or on Mars, but creating comfortable space stations is possible and long term even necessary.

There is little question of volcanoes and their effect on climate. It's been measured. We've measured the gases in the lava streaming from volcanoes. We've measured the gases in the atmosphere above and around active volcanoes. We know how much and what kind of gases come from volcanoes. If volcanoes were the cause of our global atmospheric carbon dioxide levels going from 300ppm in 1911 to 350ppm in 1988 to 400ppm in 2015 we would know it. Instead, we know it is not the reason. We know it is us. Humans mining billions of tons of carbon based fossil fuel and burning it every year. The cooling effect of Krakatoa was, as you stated, temporary. The warming effect of burning fossil fuels, as we have been (and deforestation), will make drastic changes over decades with lasting effects for many thousands of years. Taking billions of tons of a carbon out of the long term underground (millions of years) storage and putting it in our atmosphere and oceans where it will take millions of years to naturally return to below ground long term storage has consequences. You can see this in increasing glacial melt, drought, flooding and forest die off data every year. Mt. Pinatubo eruption in the Philippines did not negated all the efforts of man in trying to reduce emissions (carbon dioxide). If you look at the measured levels of carbon dioxide in the Earth's atmosphere 1991 is just one step in the ladder. There are many things that can be explained there that have nothing to do with global warming. Arson is known to be one of the biggest causes of wildfires, and "accidental" triggers like dropped cigarette ends. But you never hear that when they're reporting them on the news. Glaciers retreating? NASA said that the Antarctica was getting colder because the glaciers were growing. The earth is known to tilt slightly over time, that could be why temperatures change in different areas, why it's now colder in Antarctica and warmer in the North. Where I live the sea level has never changed, there are water level markers that are the same as they were when I arrived in the area 45 years ago. Maybe the sea level doesn't change where I am, who knows? Storms differ all the time, I remember the worst storm ever in the UK was in the 1950s when over 200 died. That was 70 years ago. I've seen the waves frozen as they came over the rails, that was 50 years ago. What he says makes a hell of a lot of sense, and I'll guarantee that in another 100 years nothing will have changed.

There's really no such thing as a *"climate denier",* nor I would suggest a *"climate expert."* Climates are always changing randomly, daily, yearly,and historically. There are far too many highly complex disciplines and unpredictable parameters that effect climate, to be an expert or predict future levels, (as all the dubious computer models have failed to do). As a scientist myself (organic chemistry and biochemistry), *I deal in empirical data.* As such, I 'd say I'm not an expert but a *climate "realist".* I'm not chasing NGO, NASA, or institutional funding to pursue such career, so I dont create a problem, fudge data or propose a solution. To expect "global average" temperature to *NOT* rise or fall by 1 degree or sea levels by one cm or two over 100years is farcical!! That's assuming we can even measure such parameters accurately or meaningfully. Tide gauges for example, are subject to gravity and land movement etc. Earth's temperature varies between ~ -50C and +60C depending on *season, altitude, longitude, sunspot activity, atmospheric moisture, ocean dipole, undersea volcanoes, ocean dipole, tectonic plate movement, deforestation, urban island effects etc etc.* Moreover, the "average" temperature makes little attempt to consider data error or confidence limits, irregular placement of thermometers and accuracy of past empirical data. What really annoys me is when I see a graph with the Y axis showing a range of 1 to 2 degrees. Any small variation will appear to the novice, as an alarming vertical rise when it would be a virtual straight line if the full range of temperatures being measured are expressed.

honestly i watched this thinking i could debunk this but i don’t think i can - not because the arguments are particularly hard to respond to but i don’t anything i say would be taken seriously by a person being convinced by this like half of the stuff he’s saying is hard to even call an argument you need to not think too hard about the thing he’s saying to believe it so why would such a person put in even more effort to understand what im writing in response lightning round to prove myself right i guess 1. "the temperature is always changing" - statistics i guess? - you can demonstrate a trend of somethings average changing into a certain direction (idk if its fair to even entertain this one like if you’re making an argument don’t let us guess construct it properly idk i think most people can agree it’s something stupid to say this after shortly thinking about it which is where the problem lies - like yes people don’t construct perfect arguments and thats normal but sometimes someone says something so stupid it should make you question them) 2. that thing with the tide gauges and satellites - god this point is annoying - it’s kinda hard to translate what hes saying here into an actual argument about climate change here but ima try so yes a tide gauge is basically a stick fixed to the ground with some markings which give you an idea about by how much the stick is submerged at that point now as he said in many bodies of water this changes constantly but fortunately we can just take a bunch of those measurements every day at over the course of decades which shows us how there’s a constant cyclic up and down over the course of seconds (waves) hours days and seasons (tides) - what it also shows us is a constant going up of the submersion level consistent with our model predictions for climate change - now do this at a bunch of different points (idk every few kilometers of coast) and you’ll see that while the cyclical rhythm of changing waterlevel might change the broad trend doesn’t (the stick measures our sea level btw it’s just that these measurements need to be processed like i just did ) and before anyone brings this up no the relative height of the stick towards any arbitrary point on dry land is not changing in a way that explains this trend (at some parts of the world the land is rising and in others sinking relative to the stick but its not significantly enough to explain this trend) which also brings me to the satellites which is measuring the same thing (nowadays we use the satellites cuz it’s easier and we get more data cheaper) but by comparing the waterlevel broadly to an arbitrary point on land or an arbitrary area on land (actually the whole land since they just make a 3d model of everything but it doesn’t really matter since like i said most of the land level doesn’t change significantly) so yes both are by definition correlative since they’re measuring the exact same thing 3: so there’s a rise or no getting mixed messages here - if the rise is significant or no is really just a matter of perspective idk what his is but for me its the fact that it generally rises by more every year and that the models that predicted the rise for the last years show that even in the bast case scenario a bunch of large inhabited regions will be flooded and a bunch of sources for drinkable water (because sealevel rise will turn some rivers around and salinate a bunch of lakes) - enough to lead to in human history previously unprecedented crisis and if these models are wrong please explain what would suddenly reverse that trend and on that end why it’s happening in the first place while we’re at it why not also adress the much more pressing issue of seasons and weather disasters consistently getting more extreme and on the latter one: more frequent even if i didn’t believe in climate change this seems like something we should be concerned about hm? 4. people seem to really like that point "when you hear a scientist saying the science is settled, you know that person has stepped out of the science" - now when people say the science is settled what they usually mean is that within that field the discourse on the validity of the underlying theory has stagnated and people usually conduct their research under the assumption it is true - another thing the science is settled on would be the laws of physics( i know im a little hyperbolic but this point is easier to explain the simpler the theory is) - let’s say for example i was trying to disprove the first law of thermodynamics - if i was running around everywhere telling people "no actually you can create energy and matter from nothing and destroy it again - the only reason people tell you you can’t is because then all their other science makes sense" - noone would take me seriously - if i wanted to do this right id have to present an alternative explanation for why things usually happen that way - a model that could replace the current one as well or better none of this is done here which btw brings me to topic of qualification 5. do you ever notice people trying to debunk highly politicised scientific theories are themselves almost always from a completely different field and never did actual research within like where are my immunologists talking about how vaccines cause autism? He ignores the facts. We had about 2 billion people in the world in 1920. We now have almost 8 billion. How many cars were on the roads in 1920 versus today? You Tube is great for music but other sources need to be questioned. Throw in the fact that this video is from 2011 and it is way outdated.

I’ve already died from the mini ice age in the 70s. I died again from the acid rain of the 80s. Then I died again from the hole in the ozone layer in the 90s. I died yet again from global warming of the 2000s. I’m going to continue to die from “climate change” because the climate will always change. When will these scientists tell me I can live? In my opinion, the Earth is self correcting. If the carbon increases in the atmosphere, then more trees will sprout around the globe to absorb it. The trees give off oxygen that we need to breath. The ground and oceans also assist in sequestering the CO2. Nature takes care of itself here on Earth. It was planned that way.

These healthier forests have propagated other sprigs by pollennation which in turn forms " dust clouds " of tree pollen. There are more trees in my part of the US than I've ever seen before. I figure this is from the increase in CO2 and increased rain we enjoy.

My friend trees are living organisms, they reproduce sexually, when there's more food they breed and survive more effectively. When there's more plant life there's more food for herbivorous predators when there's more herbivorous predators there's more food for carnivorous predators which in turn produce more food for plants as well as prevent over predation from the herbivores. Life begets life and death as it's fruit. "We're cutting more trees then new ones are planted" That's one of these lovely statistics that can be true and mean nothing at all, given that the primary means of tree growth is organic and not via plantation and cutting down trees creates prime habitat for more trees. On top of the fact that if I have 3 tree plantations I cycle between for industrial/economic purposes, the trees I plant are not really 'new ones' statistically but replacements for my own culling and while that math is perfectly balanced the very fact that I'm harvesting the plantation means that more trees are being cut down than 'new ones' being planted. Not to mention anyone with forested acreage has that property select cut every few decades, giving the tree population time to mature itself between cuts and a portion of mature trees are left uncut just in case there's a fire and the young trees don't make it. But these new trees aren't planted, they're left to grow organically.

Greenland is forecast to loose 40 gigatonnes of ice in just a matter of days. This would be the single largest melting event ever reorded. 2. Due to heat and dryness, arctic wildfires have reached truly apocalyptic scales, 12 million ha of forest have burned in Russia alone, the Arctic fires are causing C02 emissions of 121 megatonnes, much of soot from the fires will fall on snow and ice in the Arctic, reducing albedo and accelerating melting of both. 3. Large emissions of methane gas appear to be venting from the Arctic Basin. Methane is at least 150 times more powerful a greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide on timescales of 5 years or less and is growing in concentration in Earth's atmosphere. 4. Arctic sea ice is at another record low, this reduces the planet's albedo further and thus is another positive feedback effect.

My personal opinion TR is the science left when men no longer agreed the formula for the acceleration rate of gravity was thirty two feet per second squared. its just physics...you can measure how much the earth has warmed since 1750, on average its about 1°C increase today.. no scientist denies the heating effect of GHG emissions... more energy in the system means for example tropical storms are getting more devastating as sea temperature is rising... it also changes the frequency of extreme weather events such as heavy rainfalls, droughts etc... moreover the effects are very heterogeneous across the world regions, so there will be climate refugees with consequences for political stability in some countries... moreover there exist things like "climate tipping points", like the green land ice sheet, which will be irreversibly lost once a certain temperature threshold is crossed. there is much uncertainty about the magnitude of the effects... we don't know exactly at which point sh*t is going down... are you really willing to take that bet and risk existence of human civilization? i'm not a fan of greta either... she is not charismatic by any means, but she is right that people should pay more attention... there is no business as usual scenario that won't change the world as we know it...

​@@Danycuraj I understand that a 1 degree rise in ocean temperature can relate to a difference in the climate. I also understand the heating effect of CO2 in the atmosphere. It's what helps regulate the temperature of the earth, and without it, living here would be next to impossible. There are other factors that many climatologists believe that is contributing to this. The sun's current activity is at a peak as well. Also, the earth has been coming out of an ice age for a long time. Are people contributing to an acceleration to this, or is it an insignificant part of the whole of CO2? I think there's still some research needed to determine this. What I don't believe in is the current federal government and some state governments, like California dictating what to do about it. They aren't experts, and even the experts are generally biased to the party in power. What we need, I believe, is unbiased observations and rational solutions. I read an interesting article that says the solution could be as simple as re-planting trees that have been removed. Trees apparently over time, lose their ability to absorb CO2 like they use to, so this could be beneficial for that as well. It certainly couldn't hurt. I agree more people should pay attention to what's going on in their small portion of the world, but generally they won't. There is a limited supply of oil, so there definitely will be a need for alternative energy sources. However, pushing solar and wind energy as the ultimate solution, isn't. Bio fuels isn't the answer either. What an insane notion that we grow food to burn as fuel when the world needs food to live. EVs running on lithium - Ion batteries isn't a great solution either. Lithium mining destroys the earth from which it is mined. It's a very toxic substance as well. I think it's ok on a small scale, but isn't ready for a global solution. Methane is a fantastic idea since it burns very clean, and there are landfills that are capturing the methane that is produced from them and using them as fuel. I think that's a great solution. Natural gas is also plentiful, and burs fairly clean as well. It's a good transition fuel to use until other technologies and energy supplies are developed. The California government forcing companies to stop selling gas powered engines by 2035 is dead wrong. I believe the free market continue to do the R&D for viable alternative solutions. I believe the world will be fine until we get to that point. The real problem is countries like China and India who continue to increase their emissions and don't seem to be working towards a less polluted environment. I don't believe in solutions that are short sighted and end up causing unnecessary pain in our economy, or end up causing destruction in other aspects such as the problem with lithium mining I mentioned. I think there should always be dissenting viewpoints to the majority - held positions on anything. Everything should be questioned.

There are a lot of things that may have contributed. for one thing the global population has increased from 2.5 billion in 1950 to over 8 billion now. Over three times the number of people on the planet is going to have a huge effect I would have thought, even if we all lived in tents, yet it's blamed on using fossil fuels and so on. Why is the impact of the temperature emitted by an extra 5.5 billion people never mentioned? They bang on about the sea levels, well in 45 years they have never changed where I live. The markers on the piers prove it. Our hottest summer was 1976. Our worst storm, which killed over 200, was in either in the early 1950's or 60's (I forget which). If you actually look at records of global events you'll see that the worst are always decades, even centuries ago. How do you explain that? The problem is we're all being pushed into this way of thinking but only being told half the story. It's what they always do when they want the thinking of a population to shift in a certain direction, and if you go on about something for long enough, more and more people fall into the trap and start to believe it.
