Actually you spend most of the time bored, and, depending on how much time you spend practicing in peaceful missions, and how much you know about dogfighting, missions are pretty survivable. Then again, some situations aren't survivable. But that's life. Edit: Clarification

I was playing IL2 as a gunner for my friend. We took off from the airfield, and after a while I decided to check the map and see where we were. I looked at my map a couple of times, and looked outside. I asked my friend “yo where are we supposed to be going again?” He told me the enemy factories. I then realized we have been flying in the wrong direction for 15 minutes. IL-2 is fucking great.
