Hello Displorers, welcome to another informative video on our platform and thanks for washing. In this video we shall be comparing two countries in Southern Africa to see which one comes first in terms of geography, population, economy and why not tourism. Though they are unique in their own ways they somehow have similarities such as its desert nature and the maintenance of wildlife. Many factors are going to decide which one is a better option such as the basic reason for the trip and what you intend to accomplish in either of the countries.

GOEGRAPHY AND DEMOGRAPHY
Botswana officially the Republic of Botswana is a landlocked country in Southern Africa. Formerly the British protectorate of Bechuanaland, Botswana adopted its name after becoming independent within the commonwealth on 30 September 1966. Since then, it has been a representative republic, with a consistent record of uninterrupted democratic elections and the lowest perceived corruption ranking in Africa since at least 1998. Formally in the 1960s, it was known as the world’s poorest country. It is currently Africa's oldest continuous democracy. Botswana is topographically flat in a surface area of 581,730 kmswith up to 70 percent of its territory being the Kalahari Desert to the west.Its capital and largest city is Gaborone where you find lots of beautiful and interesting features. It is bordered by South Africa to the south and southeast, Namibia to the west and north, and Zimbabweto the northeast. Its border with Zambia to the north near Kazungula is poorly defined but is, at most, a few hundred metres long.it is occupied by a plateau that has an average altitude of about 1000m. The climate here is sub-tropical, arid or semi-arid depending on the area. It has two seasons the winter/dry season which starts from May to August. During this period it is usually dry and sunny,mild during the day but cold at night especially in the centre and south. The summer/Green season runs from September to April, during this time of the year, there is heavy downpour followed by intense sun. October is the hottest period of the year with 100s°. Botswana is the 3rd most sparsely populated countries of the world with a mid -sized population of 2.3million people. Interestingly just about 10% of this population live in the capital city.
Namibia on the other hand is officially the republic of Namibia. It is also a country in the southern Africa. Its western border is the Atlantic Ocean, Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africato the south and east. Although it doesn’t border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres of the Zambezi River separates the two countries.Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. As at 2020, Namibia has a population of 2,744,637people with 3.3 persons per km2 within a total surface area of 8.242.90km2. The population’s 97.5% are Christians, 2.0% religiously affiliated,0.3% Islam and 0.2% religiously tradition. The Namib Desert, after which the country is named, is considered to be the oldest desert in the world; Namibia is the first country in the world to incorporate the protection of the environment into its constitution; some 14% of the land is protected, including virtually the entire Namib Desert coastal strip; Namib-Naukluft National Park (49,768 sq km), is the largest game park in Africa and one of the largest in the world
Namibia is one of the hottest countries in the world with an average of 300days of sunshine.During the months December to March it is generally hot throughout the country. The main rainy season starts in January (often with thundershowers). The vegetation turns into a lush green.
During April to May rains might still occur but the temperatures slowly start to drop.
From June to September it is winter in Namibia. No more precipitation is received (except in the far south - in the winter rain areas) and during the day temperatures are moderately warm, the nights are severely cold, while in the inland and desert overnight frost occurs. The vegetation changes from green to brown during this season.
In October and November temperatures rise increasingly and it gets hot again. The so called “little rainy season” starts and brings a most welcome end to the long dry period.
Namibia has a larger population and its population growth rate increases faster than Botswana. While Botswana has a friendly climate and about 70% of its population are urbanised than Namibia with a very harsh climate from the Atlantic coast. So Botswana takes it home for this round.

Interesting.. i didn't know that most Batswana had same stigma as other African and Western media on South Africa... saw someone say ur government doesn't encourage u to visit South Africa... well so sad that most South Africans literally love Botswana than any neighboring Country. Also did u know that Mahikeng a city located next to Botswana in South Africa where generally ppl speak Setswana was the adminstrative capital of Botswana untill 1966 when offices moved to Gaborone. The father of Seretse Kama died in Mahikeng... What i am saying is that... the stigma won't help anyone. I know most ppl hate South Africans becoz of what media tells them.. of which is exaggerated. We are advised to take care just like in Botswana or other countries. Batswana and South Africa have many tribes and ethnic groups that originate in South Africa.

I am not sure where you get that and if you did, it may have been a hint or advise on exercising caution when travelling to SA, and there's totally nothing wrong with that. Botswana and SA share culture, language and just so you know the largest ethnic Tswana group is that of South Africa with a population of over 4 million. South Africans and Batswana share border crossing because of their familial relationships on both sides. Both have relatives from both sides. Most families don't even live far away from each other within the border radius. Its painful to see them stamping their passports for a 2 kilometer familial visitations. Mafikeng used to be Botswana's capital before it was moved to Gaborone in 1966. Interesting isn't it? Those two should have been one country from the start and I am not sure what hell happened then but we al know its the work of the colonialists. They divided territories to their own advantage and look at the rest of Africa.

Namibia is very small and undeveloped with only two universities. Windhoek is the only place where everyone goes, there are no other options, everyone knows everyone's business it's extremely boring. In the North it's literally a village, people wear traditional clothes almost everyday, just like the olden days. No traffic lights, and the roads are gravel. The hospitals are extremely bad beyond measure.

I am from Botswana, but I must say I will never forget the New Year holidays of 2019 that I had with my then fiance, now wife. Swakopmund (Namibian coast city), was like an extension of Gaborone (Botswana capital). We met a lot of friends from Gaborone doing their holidays there, we even bumped into one of my cousins and her hubby in a night club in Swakop during new year countdown celebration. The club capacity had half Namibians and half Batswana all full of love, music and dancing. Viva Africa Viva.

The nickname comes from our liberation struggle history and the odds we faced. We fought off the Germans and as soon as we were about to win, the tables were turned against Germany after losing ww2 and we had new colonizers (the British) wh turned us to their proxy South Africa under the apartheid regime. SA had one if the strongest armies in the world when we contained them for over 40 years of guerrilla warfare of which we have won many significant battles until our independence. Hence the verse Namibia Land of the Brave in our national anthem which we have adopted as a nickname now.

#DYK Mahikeng which is a city in the North West Province of South Africa was the Adminsitrative capital of Botswana. It served until 1966 when offices were moved to Gaborone. Mahikeng ppl speak Tswana same language as Botswana... Mahikeng being one of the only cities which served two countries and was influential in the independence of Botswana and South Africa. I am from Botswana, and growing up I must say I LOVED Bophuthatswana (to gather the Tswana). We went to Mafikeng every month for shopping and I treated it like my second home. I loved Lucas Mangope. The way his son died in such a freak accident was so sad :( I wish I could go back in time to such an idyllic period in my life. We have always had excellent relations with the Tswanas of South Africa. They treat us like their own. I wish Botswana and Bophuthatswana had merged to form one country. Comparing countries is good but comparing the SADC countries is kinda not a good thing because these countries are more or likely the same and are interrelated. Botswana built its economy and its infrastructure from the ground up and has never inherited any from Western countries unlike most African countries where the infrastructure was inherited from colonialists. The colonialists deserted Botswana because they thought it was a desert and there was nothing to gain from it. So they had to fend for themselves.
