Amazing to see Leon play. Not sure if he remembers. But I do remember meeting him outside uct studios when being introduced to him by my father. I was just a young boy then :-). An honour to here him play. Especially when hearing his recent interview on the bbc describing how much this meant to my father. A true honour. May you continue to rise in all your endeavours. Obviously as a South African I am compelled to state ,that Leon plays this masterpiece by Botteseni the best , thus is by far the most beautiful rendition , fact.

In a masterclass in 1991, Frantisek Posta told me I was only the second person he had seen start the Elegy with an up bow, the first was himself. Now, at last, here’s a third!

I start it with an up bow as well, which I originally learned from mark morton, it’s a lot more natural

I love this. This is beautiful. I’m new to the double bass. I’m coming over from the electric bass and instantly fell in love with it and the bow. Pizzicato I’m good and getting better but the bow gives me trouble. You have inspired me to keep on going. Encore! Encore!

Bottesini considerably enriched the double-bass repertoire. Thise who live the double-bass should look up the Venetian Domenico Dragonetti (1763-1846). He was the greatest double-bass virtuoso of his time. Look up as well the Austrian Carl Ditters von Dittersdorf (1739-99) who also left a few works featuring the instrument.

Fantastic tutorial wow. Please if anybody could give me their fingering options for me first 12 bar's or so. I would be so very grateful I'm having a private war with myself and all the different ways to approach this peice.
