Great video on the different water options. I usually carry the Smart Water type bottle, but I should have some type of filtration system as a backup just in case. Good video.

Thank you for watching! We are the same way for backpacking. The Smart water bottles work great because they are tuff and light.

For longer hikes I use two lightweight plastic bottles from the grocery store :) They pack more easily and it's good to have a back up in case one of them gets lost or mechanically damaged. They're made of thin polyethylene foil which is basically the same material that's used for bladders, just less flexible. Collapsible bottles look cool but they're more difficult to handle. I do my research before the trip. If there are streams or glacial lakes along the trail I don't even carry that much water. Plus, in national parks there are often small huts where you can refill and have some snack.
