Damn you made that look sooooo easy! I have to go out to the winch on my UTV & try to make a new eye on the winch rope end. Even with a cover & bump stop on my winch rope the nylon rope eye still will break with use lifting the plow up & down while plowing. I did have a wire rope on this winch but the wire rope would break at the eye every 3-4 times out plowing. I’m hoping the nylon rope I switched out for the wire rope lasts much longer between repairs! Thank you for the info on how to make an easy new eye on my nylon winch rope!

@allanarndt3047 not sue what rope you purchased. Based off you use case I would go for amsteel. amzn.to/3vvPVUr Samson Premium Amsteel Blue Rope 3/16" is Strong HMPE Dyneema Fiber with 4,900lb breaking strain. Depending on how heavy you plow is you could go thicker. Not the cheapest rope, with that said this will last ages, and if it did break you can easily put in a new eye. My cousin was doing that at age 6. Now an old man, he is splicing giant wire ropes for his tugboats.

A different process for wire but still a great skill that gives the best results. I wish I had learnt how to do this at 6 years old !!!

@@BottomUPBoats My cousin could pull the cotter pins from his tricycle and take off the rear wheels when we were 3 years old. We are 73 now and I never caught up to him mechanically.

The taper is critical. It is not just to avoid a jam. Lack of a taper creates an abrupt change in the tension on the fibers and can result in a point of failure. Follow manufacturers' instructions for the proper taper length.

I'm thinking this rope is hollow braided. Need to know how to on non hollow braided ( solid )

Correct this is how you do it on single braid (hollow rope). You need to use different techniques for double braid and twisted rope. Sadly I don’t have any videos published on these eye splice videos published yet. Sounds like you have just inspired some content for the up coming winter 👍

What if the braid is too tight to fit the tail inside?

Where you using a D-Splicer or a traditional fid ? If traditional try a d-splicer which takes up less room inside the rope. Other option is to give the fid and the rope a light tap with a hammer this can loosen the fibres to allow you to pull it through

Es ist nicht nötig, diese Verbindung zu heften, die Verbindung verriegelt sich selbst und wird unter Belastung fester. Wenn Sie befürchten, dass sie verrutscht, machen Sie das letzte Ende, das Sie vergraben, so lang, wie der andere Kern unter Belastung darauf Druck ausübt. Je länger es ist, desto sicherer ist die Verbindung.
