Very interesting. Like so many of the great ones, Botvinnik seems to go into battle with more ammunition than the other guy.

I know somebody who seems to play the Dutch every game (just like some people play the Sicilian all the time). Now I got to remember this gambit to try on him :P.

Games of Botvinnik v. Tal are quite interesting.

The Staunton Gambit worked, but there is the possibility for Black to play first e6 and then to play the Dutch.

2:28, that doesn't pin the knight. (White first) Knight G5, Bishop takes Queen on D1, Bishop on G5 #checkmate# on F7.

I invariably play the Staunton in blitz. Nobody seems to know it.

I thought it's illegal to castle when king or rook is attacked. My whole life was a lie.

Rules are applied on king not on the rook

what kind of gambit is it?

Why did White castle kingside? I thought it wasn't a good idea to castle if you had already pushed the pawns, you were going to castle behind?
@pop909510 жыл бұрын
Because he had a grand master level understanding of position and tactics, and it was the correct play. Rules like "it is inadvisable to castle to a side on which your pawns are in disarray" are for most....not all situations, They are meant to be broken when the situation calls for such.

+pop9095 but normally far too risky.

+JamesLinton17 It brought the King Rook to the half-open f-file, aiming at f7, which the King Bishop was also aiming at. And if the White Queen ever arrives at h5, she will ALSO be aiming at f7. As for White's King, with what is Black going to attack it with? His bottled up Queen side pieces?

Black should play defensive due to less development
