From his new album "M'Balimaou" (Brothers), the splendid blues "Hona" - a collection of images taken in Bamako while Boubacar was recording the album together with Vincent Bûcher (harmonica, here on this song), and Ballaké Sissoko or Christian Mousset (both producing the album and appearing in the video).

Far too few people outside of Africa get to hear the music of Boubacar Traore in their daily lives, why should this be? He's clearly a musician/song writer of the highest order and deserves a huge worldwide audience.

Goodnight. I Saw M Traoré this night in concert near Orléans in France... With Bucher and his Harmonica... My spirit was in Africa or in France but in the Sky, with my died parents, ... I was like the string of a violin vibrating under the bow... It was Amazing. Thanks a lot M Traoré and good Luck on the road ... for a lot of years again again...

Blues music was influenced by West African music passed down by enslaved people from West Africa, as well as European-style folk music passed down by European immigrants to the U.S. The harmonica was invented in Germany as a piano tuner and it reached the U.S. via German immigrants. Little Walter was a famous Black musician who revolutionized its use in Blues music. It’s funny how an African American contributed to the modern music of his ancestral homeland.

The Blues’ journey from Africa to America is well documented. Back in the late ‘90s Martin Scorsese dedicated the complete first episode of his documentary, The Blues, to its African roots. Corey Harris, a modern African American blues man, narrated. It was eye and ear opening to hear the sounds of traditional African music in relation to what we call The Blues. It IS The Blues, was, and ever shall be.

Beautiful, thank you for bringing this to my attention. I first heard the Kora. in Seattle at Bumbershoot in the late 80's early 90's, the African music was always some of the very best. So peaceful and soulful and uplifting. Its great to hear the music of Mali again. Peace on Earth :)

What an incredible artist. And Malian music is on another level. The instrumentals are so rich. I believe the Nilo-Saharan and the Niger-Congo regions, that's where the roots of ancient African artistry and culture lies. And Mali, is certainly one of its capitals. I hear and see their cultural influence everywhere on the continent.
