Looks like vinyl tiles, Big job to remove and then looks like grout and blackout glue underneath also BIG job to remove. Professional flooring installer for more than 46 years here.

I wonder if floating a thin layer of self-leveling concrete would be better than polishing old floor

Trying hot air blower. Make them soft and you can remove them easier.

ceramic tiles? fastest DIY way is to break it with a hammer and pointer and then remove it with that stuff you used

I hope you checked first that the floor tiles didn't have asbestos in them. That's nasty stuff.

Sweet Yuliya, your much too pretty to be doing that VCT Vinyl tile job removal! A lot weight to dispose of! The old tiles used to be made of asbestos i'd wear a face mask! Dean( Soul)

There's too much flexibility in the tool you're using to remove the flooring tiles. If you had a more rigid tool, higher quality, it'd be a lot easier.
