I just started running my 79" k100 big sleeper. Big cam 400 with a 13 speed. It's been a blast man. I think you'll enjoy it. Don't skimp out on anything with it. Even if you just choose to turn it into a show truck, preserve it and don't let it rot. Proud for you buddy.

Well I again been with Swift for over 26 years and fixing to retire. I make over .70 a mile. I really never break down maintenance here does pretty good. When you do break down unless your close to a terminal we use vendors .Really hard to control quality but they try. The US Express merge is a work in progress ,I think. I needed a tire repair Sunday on Easter and was fixed in about 2 hours. It could have been faster but mechanic had some equipment issues. I have had those trailers get stuck like that. I take some chock blocks and can usually get them slid. Also a hammer to the pins. If you do have one get stuck slide them all the way back one forth a couple times. Good luck with that cab over. I have drove them and they take a bit to get used to. Your right though cool content and I’m looking forward to watching. 🇺🇸

Take a look at the welds on the frame lengthening joints. I was a dealer for a lot of years and always insisted that inserts were placed inside the frame that were bent to fit the inside dimensions of the frame. Pretty much solved the possibility of the welds breaking. Usually made the insert about 8" in front of the front weld and the same amount past the rear weld. Added a little weight but added peace of mind.

Brings back memories, I drove a 75 K100 with a 318 Detriot 13 speed for 4 years from 1075 to 1979. Leased to a company called Johnson Motor Lines, headquartered out of Charlotte. I ran out of the New Jersey terminal. Ran Nabisco cookies from Jersey south hauled cigarettes back north. Ran drums of Texaco oil to Buffalo turned with load of spackle to Baltimore and Tin plate back up to Jersey, was a good gig until my wife said it was that or her. Before ICC regulations I was only 19 when I started. I enjoyed those years. Good luck with the Kaywoodie.

That VIT interior is very nice. Obviouosly the dude took pretty good care of it. The outside looks like it needs some serious TLC though, I saw a bit of rust there. If you do a repaint, have a look at some filigree style graphics (thin swirly ones), done in red on that white would look super minty on the front, the doors and the cab corners, especially if you're gonna do red wheels. If it was me, I would chrome the hell out of it, double stacks, double breathers, tanks, battery/tool box, half fenders, with lights everywhere hahaha. All in all though, it looks like you got a great deal! Welcome to real old school truckin my dude! Hahaha Just like we do it over here in Kiwiland!

I must admit, I'm not really into stretching trucks, particularly cabovers, as you lose so much on maneuvering ability, which you so often complain there isn't enough space for. I get adding a small amount to allow for a larger sleeper, but beyond that seems like a waste of the largest benefit of a cabover. It's not my ride though, so you do you. You'll still get the benefit of the better forward view. In Europe we have limits on overall length, so stretching never makes any sense as it cuts down on the load capacity - you would have to shorten the trailer to match! Maybe a future project could be to import a reasonably recent European truck (several options, so I'd suggest looking into what has the best parts support). That way, you could have modern comforts in a cabover style. Volvo might be good as they also have US models, and I'd be prepared to bet many or even most of the parts are interchangeable. How does a 17-litre straight six grab you? Just 780hp with 3800Nm torque on that.

The front hubs are left and right stud pilot totally different wheel. If the rears are 06 there a lot easier unimount. The 13 speed splits on high side only. It was the original transmission that was able to split because back then 400 hp was a lot of power and 75 mph at 2100 rpm was moving on down the road. The 855 series Cummins with the a number 10 button the right rpm spring and the right turbo is capable of about 505 hp. But you haft to upgrade the cooling system from a low flow to a high flow with more rows in the radiator or it will get to hot! If the stretch has not been run yet an alignment is a must before you let it roll.

You can buy covers for the vents that snap right over the old ones. Check all of the chrome shops. The exhaust brackets will probably be the hardest to find. Overall you were very lucky to find that truck. There are very few of them left. Great project and I wish you the best.
