Can I ask a question, Is Damascus steel made by putting different types of steel together and folding it... or, a steel that is from Damascus ,Syria. That was/is used to make a steel that has patterns in it from the forging process?
@boulderdashforge8 күн бұрын
Damascus steel (also called damascus steel, or Damascus steel) is the name given to two types of steel with a particular appearance: First, historically, it is a steel, also called wootz, developed in India and forged on site as well as in the Middle East, renowned for its quality and characterized by its appearance or moiré patterns. The development of this steel, and the associated know-how, disappeared during the 17th century; Later, they are heterogeneous steels made up of several grades of steel welded and forged to obtain more or less complex patterns. This material, called "wrought Damascus steel", borrows the name of the historical metal by abuse of language because of its superficial resemblance to wootz Damascus steel. Its manufacture is found in many countries; It can be linked to traditional and ancestral know-how (like Japanese mokume-gane), or be a modern process improving the aesthetics of certain objects.

With the magnets stacked and packed in the powder... I was curious what it would look like too! IF... it could be used in a Damascus canister! Lol Just curious! I don't even know if it can be formed at all! Lol When it warms up... I'm gonna try it with different powders in a canister just to see what's up! My girl wanted me to add some thin sheet copper and/or stainless to it just for sharts and giggles! Lol So... can it be formed in the forge, can it be fused with other metals, can it be remagnatized afterwards!? What will it look like!?!?!? These are the questions I ask myself! Just curious! Even water at some point just getting a wet and let the air hit it will cause copper oxide dioxide or chlorite to form.And don't forget you don't want touch bleach or certain types of soap or else it will tarnish Rather quickly And if you leave it Around searching types of stainless steel you It will cause an Exchange in particles, making the copper jump to the stainless steel. Once you go above 20 - 30 layers they just fuze and it's not really any better compared to 30 layers, is basically just for bragging rights. Also this is JAPANESE PATTERN STEEL, not Damascus. Damascus is made with wootz steel where pattern is created by micro inclusions. Also real Damascus has better mechanical properties.
