I played and finished this game 2 times (1st on PS2, then on PC) years ago, and the 3 things that really ruined my overall impression for the game was the crappy save system, which can only be used once after reaching a story checkpoint, not being able to carry healing items (3 would've been enough), and final boss fight, which required you get caught & execute a QTE trigger to actually hurt it (as shown in video). If the game had better and more standard save system, and allowed you to carry healing items, I would've more than forgiven the final boss fight itself.

7:25 for me how I judge gun gameplay: -Feedback from the recoil, just a simple camera shake adds a bit of weight -Sound, everything about it, gun fire sounds punchy, reloads, just the movement of the parts. A bit of echo is close spaces is a nice touch -Impact, how the space around you reacts to a shot. Bullet impacts, sfx, enemy reactions to getting hit.

The fixed camera/over the shoulder combo is something i wish more developers would use in survival horror games. Hell Capcom should have used this idea for a resident evil game a long time ago. It's a perfect blend of classic and modern survival horror and im sure fans of both would love. I i know i do. If you're an indie dev and you plan on working on a survival horror title please consider using this idea.
@BadAssMacmillanАй бұрын
The RE4 beta version did that, but I think Mikami scrapped that idea and decided to stick to over the shoulder because RE4 being so combat focused would make the camera switching between the two styles confusing, especially in big open areas like the first village fight. Sticking to a consistent style with RE4 was the right choice. However, I can see this camera combo working in more traditional survival horror games that don't focus on combat/shooting that much and are usually set in closed areas, such as the classic RE games and Silent Hill games.
@metroplex29Ай бұрын
Only a tiny minority wants fixed cameras and tank controls to continue to exist in RE Games, fortunately the majority of players enjoy the franchise more with over the shoulder camera view.
@BadAssMacmillanАй бұрын
@@metroplex29 I mean, the most beloved game in the series (OG RE4) has tank controls, and two of the most beloved games in the series to this day (RE1 Remake and OG RE2) have both tank controls and fixed camera angles. There’s nothing wrong with tank controls and fixed camera angles, they’re just a design style. Some modern indie horror games actually use them. Personally I like both the classic and modern style of the camera and controls.

this was originally how RE4 was going to play, if you look the early versions(like the Hookman for example), they have fixed camera for the exploration and over the shoulder for combat edit: the video literally mention this at 15:23 lol

I wish horror games in general used more interesting camera systems instead of "third person over the shoulder" all the time. Things haven't changed much since 2005.

@metroplex29Ай бұрын
Fortunately Capcom doesn't listen to people like you and continues to give us gems in third and first person camera view.
@PelayumАй бұрын
Let's not go that far. Capcom has struck the perfect control scheme, and the first-person games only add variety to their formula. Fixed camera angles wouldn't be received well from the general audience, and for good reason. I love old RE games, too, but their gameplay is a thing of the past
