I don’t always bounce my drum tracks in stereo to my tascam for my third dream machine album, but when I do, I wear my leather jacket the whole time to tell the universe to recognize. Respect.

I got a rack mountable patch bay that keeps me from having to climb behind my gear all the time. Well worth the money.

I just have my 388 not against a wall and i walk behind it. Then i don't have to worry about the patchbay adding more bullshit. But then again patchbays look cool. I should get one.

Hi Matthew and Doris, I hope you guys are well. I just want to say that I love your vibe with that 1970's style thing you got going on there. Your both a breath of fresh air and keeping it reel, Pun intended lol. Keep making beautiful music. Kind regards. Paul.

love what you guys do, let me just say hat first. I hate routing So Much, that I only ever want to do it once. "set it and forget it". What I'd do in this particular instance, and instances similar to it, is to set up the routing in such a way that when you're bouncing to tape In Real Time, the stereo output of the tape sound itself is being sent to a "PRINT" track in your DAW. You have the choice to A/B in real time, as well, to see if you can tell the difference, and adjust settings (like Gain) In Real Time, which allows you to do it on the spot, and not- say- a minute or two later, after the fact. You can also listen to the new drum sound being bounced to tape In Context To the rest of the song itself. As ya'll probably know, professional mixers highly recommend that you don't just take a single track and work on it in isolation, but in context to the rest of a piece. Then again there's A LOT of artistic liberty to engineering itself, so do what thou wilt here. I just wanted to communicate how, if one goes through the headache of routing Initially, they can set themselves up in the future so that they save So Much Time; writing and recording becomes Much Simpler. Before I got my own routing game down, I always felt like I had to FIGHT through my own studio in order to record stuff, which in turn became painful, and made me want to record less LOL So if you just take the time to do all the thinking ahead of time, one can save So Much Time and improve their easement working from one station of equipment to another. It's a real pain in the ass to do, but it's worth it. It took me a year to get my own set up dialed in Just Right, but when I did... it's picture-perfect seamless between all stages, from recording, to mixing, to mastering... every phase in the entire production process is accessed with just a simple push of a button. The only "real work" I have to do now is take a guitar off a wall mount, or switch out a microphone. It's So Worth It. Happy music making for many years to come you musical geniuses :) LOVE what you guys do.

Hi Matt, great videos. Just recently bought a tascam 388 to record my next album and I’m getting familiar with the beast. I basically want to record everything on tape and then send the tracks in Logic pro x through my UAD apollo quad interface. I’m still at the point of wondering how to send a clic to the tascam 388 so I can have a proper metronome to record my basics and then sync my tracks to the tempo in my eventual Logic pro session. Any help on the matter would be more than welcome. Thanks for your knowledge!

Congrats! Welcome to the club. Thats exactly how we did our album that we are finishing up now. We just recorded a click on to track one of the Tascam 388, a scratch track of the song on track two, and the drummer performed the songs to that. I am in more of the analog camp, and don't know of a way to sync the click other than setting your BPM and then recording it on the Tascam, but there's a chance it won't sync up exactly depending on tape bias, fluctuations, latency.

@@fuzzcityrecords432 I see! So that is why you’re playing with the pitch knob after to get closer to the clic of the logic pro session. Thanks for the answer! Another quick question… Are you plugging your speakers into the monitor out of the board or into the stereo out?

Did you Bias your 388 for that formula of tape? I have been using LPR35. Works great. Also, have you ever thought of getting a patch bay? You can bring every input and output from your 388 to the front, so you don't have to keep going behind it. I have all line ins, Send/RCV, Xlr, aux and effects all plumbed into a patch bay on mine. Makes thing way easier.
@fuzzcityrecords4323 жыл бұрын
Yep, I had the heads relapped and biased for SM468 at JRF Magnetic Services. I used to use a patch bay, actually had an old 80s Tascam one, and this may sound crazy, but I actually like doing it the hard way for some weird reason

So, you record drums to tape then drop it to digital, then back to tape??
@burtreynolds29693 жыл бұрын
Kinda confused about that myself.
@fuzzcityrecords4323 жыл бұрын
Yep, it's a bit of work but it's totally worth it because you have the drum sound locked in!
