What's good fam, I ran into this interview of legendary Dancehall artiste Bounty Killer. He gave his views on the state of Dancehall music and other views. What caught my attention was his opinion on Afrobeats, he said it had style and topic but no lyrics! Burna Boy who is the current leader in the genre also confirms this statement. Rema who also had amazing success also confirmed that certain songs don’t need much lyrics. My viewis that some genres are not made to be super lyrical but more of a get away from the complexities of life i.e. Afrobeats and Soca. Today’s music artists are not focused on complicated lyrics, but more so on a vibe and having fun. What’s your thoughts ?

He isn't jealous. He was comparing the state of dancehall and how it is going down because it is too lyrical. He was praising afrobeat and showing how they don't have lyrics its more topic and style, because the beat pretty much carries the song. And lets be clear, the new afro beat comes from the black western sounds and rhythm. It's a mix of all the genres from African American music.

@@lincolnikikiru4156 one of the great things about being a human is that we can verbalize our thoughts and communicate effectively, so we don’t have to solely rely on things like “body language and tone”. If you know Bounty Killer, you would know that he is aggressive by nature.

Why do black people always think only one can be on top? We don't have to fight against each other, the landscape is big enough for Reggae and Afrobeat to be on top. Lets support each other's music ❤

Some afro beat songs do have good lyrics but the majority of them care more about the melody and the groove. Check out Olivetheboy and Stonebwoy for instance. Even some of Burna and Davido songs are loved because of how the Lyrical contents relate to the masses listening.

In afrobeat we don't care about lyrics, it's a vibes, great beat, sweet melody....if you need sound with real lyrics go listen to KAO DENERO FROM SIERRA LEONE, LYRICAL JOE FROM GHANA, M.I ABAGA FROM NIGERIA, NASTY C FROM SOUTH AFRICA, KHALIGRAPH JONE FROM KENYA......afrobeat genre is to kill our stress and enjoy great moment ...noted that.

Yow yow yow artists of today dnt really do de lyrics ting like we grew up on, I honestly feel it's more abt Beats today hence the name " AFROBEATS " Heard a gospel trk with the lyrics Something good good is happening this Yr and I am grateful tht I made here. Yow the first time I heard tht trk it was going frm tht verse to the chorus and repeating the same thing over and over and over until the trk ended, several months after I found a version with another verse and I was like wow where the hell did this trk come frm but it's more abt beats to me today well hey thts wht I think.

To say Afrobeats doesn’t have lyrics is strange. Just because Afrobeats artists sing in African languages and pidgin Englishes that means Afrobeats doesn’t have lyrics? What an odd thing to say.

Bro, the idea that Afrobeats doesn't need lyrics is crap. Afrobeats has been cheapened by people who put quick money first rather than quality music and in the log run, Africa will lose if we don't get our act right. Why is it that when it comes to Africans we re comfortable with being associated with mediocrity? Afropop could have a future if we do it riht, but if we continue this way, its only a matter of time before K-Pop takes over, and bro, K-Pop is already asserting itself very well in the biggest music markets in the world, like the US, the UK and Japan
