Mr. Davis we sell out everything it’s a damn shame, and we nah educate ourselves on how di copyright system work and know we can sue di people dat is taking our sample of our music and call it there own because we start hip hop and all this genre. We need to reorganize our sound because the sound it was make our music so unique and now we a try to make our music sound just like hip hop and all dat and di new artists dem need to know how to develop dem craft and performance and look back at the greats to see what mek dem great nuff artists dem have di blueprint to follow but dem a try create dem own and it nah work. That’s why bounty Killa a di General and grandfather fi dis and dancehall genre as a whole.
@rashidaa75005 жыл бұрын
That's one view. Another view is that the music becomes more commercial and able to have further reach than bounty killa and that generation. Plus, had they pushed to make dancehall a strong entity while they had that commercial success (e.g. the cross over with rock and rap artists) the genre would have been further along. Sorry but bounty killa and his generation miss the mark because they didnt make that transition from being artists to building an infrastructure for the industry to sustain.
@1KingD5 жыл бұрын
@@rashidaa7500 You're deflecting...we're not talking abt that. We're talking abt the *"SOUND"* of the music...And I still disagree with ur opinion but u gotta wait for another interview to talk abt infrastructure.
@rashidaa75005 жыл бұрын
@@1KingD not deflecting. What I said was responsive. One view is that the different SOUND is more commercial and can carry the dancehall SOUND further. Meaning what the young artists are doing adds to the SOUND. It does not diminish it. Now if they lack musical talent that is a different conversation.

RJ A and that’s why most of di artists even overseas artists end up broke and have no type of money because they don’t understand the business and what they are signing being independent is good but also a bad thing, the bad thing you don’t understand the whole business about the management and contracts publishing right and royalty’s the main things that make di artists dem eat and also it’s more money they have to spend out of dem pocket and more. DeMarco said it best once you learn about the business management side of music is way more valuable than just performing and collecting money they have to think long term not short term the only good thing about being independent is that you get to control the freedom of your music and also get your money from iTunes and etc but it’s also whatever di fans buy dem get they can get little or they can get more and the budget it’s much smaller in the independent routine than the label routine.
@rashidaa75005 жыл бұрын
@@darnellebeckford9631 right but all in due course. Let him try the independent route first before signing contracts. Hopefully he has a plan and the right support around him. but jumping to a deal right now just because he has a buzz from Sumfest etc by his estimation doesnt make sense.

I agree with everything you say. Its unfortunate that the soul and organic nature of dancehall and its riddim has gone. A lot of these new artists are not able to DJ on a real dancehall beat. Because their vocals lack projection that why them sound boring on stage. Plus these new produces don't have the dancehall sound in there sound bank. Is pure hip-hop sounds they have lol. Dancehall sound is king and them throw it out for hip-hop sound which is a prince. Because them watch cable TV and see the lifestyle of hip hop so them think if they use the sound it will have them cross over. When is the business they need to study and keep the dancehall sound.
