Hard to believe, but with todays tech, and modern innovation I'm guessing a production facility we see here is as good, and quite possibly more consistent than those made by hand.

I noticed many of the workers in the video were wearing 'Jack Daniels' t-shirts...Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't JD, and Glenmorangie have a 'deal', or business arrangement? From what I understand - Glenmorangie owns a vast amount of forrested land in the Missouri Ozarks, and allows JD to harvest the trees, and make into barrels to age their Tennessee Whiskey...JD then sends these very same barrels off the Scotland for the Glenmorangie distillery to age their scotch whisky.

@Sirchud68 A dying profession too. According to the guys at Camlachie in Scotland it is becoming increasingly difficult to entice young people into the trade. Sadly all the skills are slowly disappearing.

sad but true though I know I am late to the party, in the end though I think you just have to tell the young afficianatos if they want the good stuff they have to help keep the barrelmaking alive, but yea skilled trades were in demand in the late 1990's when I was in highschool, and its only gotten worse from there, though about 5 years ago they got wise and started teaching industrial arts and skilled trade classes at the local highschool again to get kids interested in it and teach them the dying skills, while those that have them can teach them, and at the turn of the millenium they were telling me that the young at waterford were not going into crystal cutting and making in ireland even unlike some whos families had been doing it for several generations, now its gotten so bad they are making and cutting waterford crystal in china of all places, not even in germany or the places in the balkan states in eastern europe the slovakia chezch republic, or hungaria, or even germany or austria, china and they are charging even more for the stuff its anathama and sacrilage I tell you.

Hi guys, just want to know is it possible to buy this oak burrels in holland and send them in different country, wondering can charring can be make and send it after that? I wanna buy this white oak burrels, charred them and send them in Georgia, wondering how much will it cost me to pick 5 or 10 burrels, each of them 1000 Litres? If anyone give me the answere here I'll be very happy. Cheers

No. New charred barrels make bourbon.

To quote the US law that defines it: Bourbon "is whisky produced at not exceeding 160° proof from a fermented mash of not less than 51 percent corn[...], and stored at not more than 125° proof in charred new oak containers"

Obviously, this makes financial sense for this barrel production..but still seems very sad to watch, as making a barrel by a cooper was an amazing skill! And so many old skills, in general, are dying out, and is seems traditional skills are what many of us need in this modern world where so many walk aimlessly through life without really learning anything!
