One thing not everyone noticed is that the Weller 18 is a straight wheat whiskey instead of their normal bourbon mashbill. So this is likely part of that wheat whiskey they made years ago that was a portion of the Weller millennium barrels.

Every distillery is trying to figure out how to maintain or increase market share as the bourbon demand softens. The days of demand for allocated, hyper-priced secondary market bourbon is coming to an end. We’re entering into a buyers market for bourbon and the distilleries, distributors, and liquor stores will be working hard for our business. This will mean great bourbons at lower prices - finally. When Stagg is now in stack-outs on liquor store floors at half of what they were asking a year ago you know the market is changing. Expect “affordable” bangers from every distillery in years to come.

I’m a little bothered by the fetishization of proof in the bourbon community. RR15 was proofed down perfectly. Most OFBS SiB’s that I have tried are hot messes. I think the 100 proof version show better than the barrel strength. There’s a reason OFBB is offered at 90-107 proof. I’m not saying 96 proof is ideal… but they do look at how the whiskey presents at different proof points. Upping the proof on OF products does not get me excited.
