The way the background music starts to build up from the start of the scene...in B minor, like the song, but moving through a different harmonic progression...the way Extreme Ways begins to play as they hug, it´s an absolute masterpiece. It explodes! Perfect timing, obviously.

I loved her character, she had so much spirit and wit to her. She didn't even think he couldn't make it out alive and her fade from shock to joke and then embrace just shows how much she has grown and the relationship they made. That's one reason this ending was amazing. They showed us the characters, instead of just telling us of them.

I love how, as we enter the scene, the score subtly plays on Extreme Ways, at about half speed, with the slow arpeggiated chords following the same progression. It creates a great tension, and then the release is all the more satisfying because when Extreme Ways drops, it continues the same musical bed that preceded it. Smart film-making. Subtle, and very effective.

What no one gives credit to is the fact that the writers had the good sense of actually explaining to the audience what Marie did with the money she received. Mostly in action and heist films, they give some cliche reason such as the protagonist sitting on a beach and sipping beverages. But it was so refreshing to see that this was not the case here. Such a novel idea that the Marie character opened up her own small business of supplying scooters on rent to tourists.

You sure are right about that Jason Bourne installment, what a huge disappointment. More of the same formula, nothing really different. I love how everything fits in movie, it just feels right… the cast, the balance between the action scenes and the characters/plot development, how it used things from the book, how the ambience was created (the early 2000s Europe with that snowy and foggy weather kinda thing), even the credits song is memorable… one of my personal favourites

Great ending. The first Bourne is still my favourite in the series. They ruined the sequels by getting rid of Marie, they became too cold without her, intentional I’m sure but she’s a major character in the books and completes Jason as a character.

@Justin Williams did you watch the Bourne ultimatum?
@jhaz89
@jhaz89 2 жыл бұрын
Nah. It's not a romance. Jason Bourne couldn't have Marie while he's running around all over the place in supremacy and ultimatum. She'd slow him down and be a huge liability. Sounds like you were wanting more of a romance than an action movie.
@jhaz89

Plus Marie getting killed is what fueled him going forward. So yeah, unfortunately Marie kinda needed to go sooner than later
@jhaz89
@jhaz89 2 жыл бұрын
@Lol I do indeed wish they hadn't done the shaky cam, and yeah I've heard about that trend caused a bad trend to start. But it's not that bad. The fact is that overall, the Bourne ultimatum gets better reviews than the Bourne identity, and ultimately...people just have different opinions and nobody's opinion is more relevant or meaningful than the others. But again, having Marie stay alive would make all his sneaking and what have you impossible. So I mean if people were hoping for a romance, then yeah, I can see why they were disappointed, but I'm glad it didn't become that. Or I should say, remain that. And yeah, lots of people like romances in them, which is why most movies include it, even when unnecessary. It's especially a good way to engage the female audience. They eat that romance shit up, haha.

I spent 5 weeks in 1991 working with Matt, Brendan Fraser and the cast/crew of Matt’s first big film “School Ties.” He was just as intense, focused and had that certain gravitational charisma then in his early 20s as he does today (if you look you can clearly see me in the finished film :-) In any event, I so agree with what everyone is writing here. This is one of those rare films where it simply ALL comes together… And leaves us with this massively satisfying fusion of redemption, unity, coming back together, some good love vibes and Moby’s totally supreme/kick-ass “Extreme Ways,” igniting in the last seconds of seeing Jason and Maria reuniting, going into that great graphic animation as the credits roll… my only change in the series would be I would’ve not killed off Maria at the beginning of the sequel; she was too good hearted and I don’t think it was necessary… the writers could’ve gone more creative and written her out in a different direction, as opposed to instant death by gunshot, from my perspective. CHEERS TO THE BOURNE CREATION TEAM… BRAVO 👏

Such little conversation to portray so much, "You have ID?" "No, not really." This shows how Jason now doesn't have people hunting him actively, therefor they can be together. It also shows how Jason has forsaken his old identity and is now looking forward to the future with Marie as his own person. It makes sense for the film to complete with this dialogue as the name of the film includes the word Identity.
