I was born in Boscombe in 1959 and lived in Parkstone until 1971. So my childhood was spent living there. It was beautiful. As kids we used to walk to sandbanks on hot summer days and play in the sea. We felt safe. We also used to go to Bournemouth as a treat. my sister and I learnt to ice skate at the Follies ice rink and we both learnt to swim in the Bournemouth swimming baths by the pier. Both sadly no longer there. The last time I visited, I could not believe it was the same town. I didn’t hear an English voice. The town looked rundown. Those wonderful memories were turned to dust. 😢

I enjoyed playing the penny amusements in the arcade at the end of the old pier. And I would buy American originals of Marvel and DC comics from the newsagents.

awesome! i live just 5 mins away from boscombe pier. sadly it's not a patch on the original with the amusements and cafeteria gone and fishing diminished to a modern square platform at the end of the pier nowadays. many happy memories fishing off there and bournemouth pier in the 70's/80's.

One thing I've noticed that's different today is that pretty much no one uses deck chairs anymore

I'd be interested in knowing what the original film stock was? - I suspect Kodachrome because the Reds are have great saturation and the sand is a beautiful rich yellow which I can assure you it wasn't in real life and still isn't as of 15:23 on the 27th November 2023.

Kodakchrome 40. The yellow sand was photographed near sunset.

@@TopOfThePopsFan The older I get the more I wish we could all live in a Kodachrome world. I quite like the idea of silent videos coming back as well (Because I watch too much Tic-Tok), not yours, your choice of background music (Bonney & Buzz) is absolutely contemporary with the video, it takes me right back to Home Cine nights in the early 1970s.

Good quality for 8mm , is it digitised upscaled in the process?

The original file by the scanner is 1440 x 1080. This is actually reduced to 720. Edited in Adobe.

There's always one anorak with a metal detector, isn't there ?

Yeah, but in those days they would find plenty of coins.
