Bow Hunting for Elk and Mule Deer : Colorado : The 50 State Pursuit

The 50 State Pursuit is a great American adventure that embodies the sportsmanship of old. This journey unfolds the narrative of the different species, methods, age-old traditions, and the people that pursue both the aquatic and terrestrial game in each and every one of their respective states.
Our lenses aim to capture each state's personality crafted through the stories and experiences of the people that call it home. This is the new original series, the 50 State Pursuit.
For the state of Colorado, Justus and I took to the backcountry chasing after both Mule Deer and Elk. Thanks for joining along this journey as we explore the country one state at a time.

I'm not a stick shooter but I am an elk hunter. I will honestly say I've been on many more hunts than I have harvested elk. It's wonderful to fill the freezer but the hunt is the primary thing for me. I guess it's a primal thing where I am at my most basic with nature. @@CalledCollectiveMedia I plan to take some time to watch the rest of this video and follow more hunts. A # of my children are adults but I have 2 teen sons that still hunt with me. We are looking to go to Colorado on elk/deer hunts in the coming years. I took one of my daughters on an AZ cow/calf hunt for her graduation present a few years ago and she harvested a calf. It touched my heart when you harvested the muley and your wife and dad were there. When you used granddad's knife to skin it....well I choked up. Thrills my heart.

Dang brother Somewhere I missed the name change and hadn’t been noticing the new content. I clicked on this video because I been watching a ton of Mule deer videos since I went to Colorado on my first ever hunt to learn a little more lol.. After the video started I knew I recognized these voices 🤣 Anyways congrats on the buck and I know that was tuff watching them elk walk off in that unit lol.. I think I’m a believer in Bigfoot now too 😳 I really enjoyed this video y’all, from the highs to lows, from Bigfoot to the mountain smoothies lol.. Hunting is way more than just hunting and harvesting something for me. It’s all about the preparations before the hunt, it’s all the hard work, joy, pain and tears during the hunt and the knowledge learned, memories made and the adventure along the way. I learned so much about myself over the last year, like you both do every time you hunt together! The commentary on having a positive attitude is super important. Backcountry hunting is rough and uncomfortable much of the time. Your hunting partner will make or break any hunt. Great video! That particular jacket was a Duck Camp jacket that was a prototype for them they had us trying! I thought it was pretty cool but I don’t know if they ever came out with that! Our biggest mistake was not packing rain pants though.. that would’ve help a lot lol 😂

Bowhunting and calling in a bull for an ethical shot is hard enough, I couldn't imagine doing it while trying to film it. Colorado isnt what it was in the 1990's. Nonresidents tags are not worth the price , other states have better elk hunting. Moose are now in my old hunting areas and the elk numbers were way down in SW Colorado. Great job at staying at it. Wish I was your age again. Try brushing a tree when close, I sometimes shock bugled a bull up close and they get pissed and come to drive you away. Dumbest thing they did was releasing wolves in CO.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment. Filming is definitely a challenge. Sometimes our goal is always to create films that our future children would be proud of. Nonresident tags are really expensive. but I guess that’s just the price you pay. Numbers of elk seem to have been down and introducing wolves probably won’t help.
