Bowflex Max Trainer M5 display reset/outage issue solved

This video demonstrates how to resolve the issue where the display on Bowflex Max Trainer M5 resets during workouts or will not come on at all. In my case it was not the display that was bad, it was the power plug connector (OEM Part# 8003600) that got damaged and power was interrupted to the display. The wire must of touched the brake wheel and it compromised the integrity of the cable. A replacement of the power plug connector resolved the issue.
Here is the cable that I purchased that fixed my issue:

Interesting. My M5 just started having an issue were only the red RPM needle stays lighted (weirdly it doesnt turn off) and the blue screen doesnt turn on when you move the pedals. I was thinking it was the console that went bad. i will take a look at this cable and check for stress/damage. Thanks for the video.

Not the same issue I was having. For me the whole display was going out. This was because it was not getting power due to a faulty connector that was damaged from hitting the resistance wheel. I still have the replacement display that I cannot return if you are interested in making an offer for it.

Thanks for posting this video. My bowflex is doing the exact same thing but Imy cable seems to be okay. Any other suggestions.

Only thing I know is to purchase a new console. They are pricey and cannot be returned.

How do you reset the resistance button it doesn’t work when I push down ??? It only works going up

That might be an issue with the button on the console. I know the units are not reliable. The simple but costly fix is to get a new console. But that may not solve the issue. You could test the connection from the button output to the resistance controller with a multi-meter to troubleshoot the source, but how to do that exactly is out of my area of expertise.

My monitor powers up, but after i select a program (or do quick start) it doesnt start tracking. ie. after i press start, it goes back to welcome screen with 0:00 time and stays at that screen. any help, much appreciated!! thinking i need to replace the button panel??

Could be an issue with the display. I would open the shroud on the on the right side and inspect the power cable just to be sure it is not damaged before getting a new display.

@@BrianCollery Thanks for the suggestion. I have replaced every part of the past few weeks, ,including cables. Still does not work. When i press start it resets. ugh. i talked to bowflex and they have no idea why its not working.

My experience just now might help others. In the UK, and I have the basic Max Trainer - I think the mechanics are pretty similar, just fancier displays on the higher-end models. The display lights up, but when you start to exercise, it's like the machine doesn't know you're there. The needle doesn't move, the timer stays at zero, and it immediately says 'Workout paused.' Turns out it was the speed sensor (see this vid from Bowflex- kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXaUZqNuo7V7ptE ) I think it must be a 'known' issue, as they'd put some glue around the sensor as well as the screw fitting - but it must have moved. The holding screw was slightly loose. Anyway, re-positioned, tightened the single screw (dodgy bit of design, IMHO) and added some epoxy. All seems to be working fine again. So I'm feeling rather chuffed with myself. Be even happier when I've got the d**n fan housing back in place!
