I live and hunt in Northwest Oklahoma. I shot a great mature 8 in the back of the head with a crossbow in mid November of 2020 on public Land. I watched him run for 300 yards with the bolt flopping. I saw him a couple more times that next week. He had a red mark just behind his right ear and and his hair was all torn up. Very similar buck to what you shot. Great video and great buck!

What’s the total arrow weight? I passed up a nice buck last season at 20 yards because I was worried about penetration. I normal shoot a fixed head but after not being happy with arrow flight I switched to mega meats and I just couldn’t trust the mechanical on a frontal. I’ve been wondering for a year now, was that the right call or should I have let it fly?

Identical story to mine. Same scenario same shot placement from the ground. After i shot he took off full sprint. Deer ended up running 250-300 yards. Blood trail looked identical to yours, we were very hesitant at first and then started seeing piles and piles of blood and couldn’t believe how he went as far As he did. we found him under 20 mins after the shot. We think he just ran until he collapsed. More Lethal hit then many think. I was using a grim reaper head.
@UnGuidedOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Yeah you got to think how fast a deer can cover 300 yards. We was talking about it, this deer probably died in 15 seconds, it’s just crazy how fast they can run.

I’m very glad you found your deer and he is a stud. BUT how can you justify your shot just because he’s such a big deer? You yourself was worried about your mechanical broadhead not working. The full on frontal shot is a puss poor shot angle and you should’ve waited for a more favorable shot angle even if it means passing on the animal. Show more respect for the game your hunting and less about your ratings and viewers.
@UnGuidedOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
Ronnie, we was taking frontal shots and killing animals with them long before we ever started a KZbin channel. I have never seen a frontal shot not work, that being said I have seen deer live with a high lung before when shot broadside. As thankful as I am for you taking the time to watch our content and comment, I think your are a little self righteous or you haven’t bowhunted much. Either way this deer died and it was a lethal shot, that’s a shot we are going to take 10 out of 10 times, with or without a cameraman.
@ronnieturner41644 жыл бұрын
Well sir just to set the record straight, I’ve been bow hunting deer longer than you’ve been alive. In all that time I’ve never taken nor will I or any of the hundreds of hunters I’ve mentored take a full on frontal shot. That shot holds too many chances for the to strike a shoulder and just slide down a rib cage doing no harm except pain and suffering to the animal. As far as you taking that shot 10 out of 10 times it shows me you are an unethical hunter.
@UnGuidedOutdoors4 жыл бұрын
I am going to go ahead and assume you have wounded a couple animals right? If you have been bowhunting as long as you say you have. Not every person that shoots a bow is the same, there are plenty of people way better than me but I would also say there are people that I am better than. At 26 yards I’m shooting half dollar groups, the kill zone on that buck frontal is the size of a cantaloupe. So just because something may not be ethical for one person doesn’t mean it’s not ethical for someone else. I have no idea of your shooting capabilities, I’m not trying to judge yours it’s you judging mine and mine is that shot is lethal when I am taking it at 26 yards. Calling me unethical when I am taking a shot you are not comfortable with doesn’t make any sense. If every deer I have ever shot frontal I have recovered heck even add elk in there, and ethics is based off of the lethality of a shot??? Which I am assuming it is, if that is the case, me taking a frontal shot is ethical for me shooting my bow. Again thanks for taking the time to express your feelings but no sense is bashing on someone for something that is obviously working for them and has multiple times.
