Matt, Congrats on joining the ranks. I have been shooting pellet guns and bows for decades and only recently I bought a PCP. I still love bow hunting deer and elk here in the U.S. and also love shooting my PCP everyday at targets and pests. Keep up the great work and keep the videos coming.

Thanks for this one, its almost if the Njala know it was its last day and waited for the shot. I am proud to be a hunter and with the mindset that we are hunting animals that also feel pain is something we as hunters should never forget. God bless and keep up the good work.

You know your arrows will retain more energy downrange if they're heavier (just like a heavier pellet). I shoot Easton Axis arrows from my Bowtech Destroyer 350. With my 26.5" drawlength, I get 275 fps with a 385 grain arrow at 64 lbs. The Axis is also a thin diameter arrow and will penetrate deeper and give you more pass-through shots. Glad to see you guys paper-tuned those bows before you went out to hunt. I'm a professional bow tuner here in the U.S. and that's how I set up all my clients' bows.

Really good videography Matt, especially the view of the night sky at the end of the Day 1, segment. Also I was thinking of the tremendous forces that must have been exerted during the fight that broke off both horns of the animal that Redge shot. Great video!

welcome to bow hunting Matt! what an ethical sport when done properly. I'm Interested to see that you shoot the bow with your left eye dominant but shoot rifles with your right eye dominant? any particular reason?

@AirArmsHuntingSA8 жыл бұрын
+Jason Manuel-Morgan I'm left eye dominant and left handed but my right hand is steadier. So I use my right hand for writing, etc. I'm different😂

I'm the same way! write, throw, shoot right handed. first time I shot a bow I knew I was aiming correctly but would miss horribly. a friend's dad took me aside and had me hold a finger up on a corner of a building with both eyes open. then close my right eye. finger stayed in place lol. weirdest thing.
@huntjunky18 жыл бұрын
I've always contemplated this...I am right handed for everything except shooting archery or rifle. I am left eye dominant, which lends itself to shooting left handed and consequently, utilize my right hand/arm for the more important task of steadying the weapon, rather than pulling the trigger. Always felt this was a slight advantage. I guess that's why I never miss, just like Matt. :-)

Great Vid Matt , unfortunately bow hunting game is illegal in the Uk mainly because poachers were using mostly cross bows to take deer., the powers that be were not having their deer poached ,as deer stalking/shooting is big in the UK. atb brian
@zzzzz777718 жыл бұрын
Getting permission to have a rifle capable of taking down Deer is hard enough in the UK, let alone getting a permission where you can hunt Deer. It`s who you know not what you know in the UK isn`t it.

I like fixed broad heads for large game because a lot of energy is lost opening an expandable broad head.
@jameshealy45948 жыл бұрын
I don't know that much about it, but it would seem to me that given the arrow passed completely through a fairly large animal, there was still plenty of energy?
@justintempus74068 жыл бұрын
It's just fine until you are off by 6" and hit heavy bone. Vital organs are very soft and easy to cut (ever sliced up liver to cook?). That apparent excess of energy disappears very quickly when your massive expanded broadhead hits a shoulder blade.

Trying to give hunting a better outlook, and then you hunt animals that are fenced in ? thats not hunting in my opinion
@AirArmsHuntingSA8 жыл бұрын
+Gnulf Sorry to burst your bubble, but all animals are "fenced in" in South Africa. If you bought a Sable for $100 000, would you build a fence or would you let it migrate to the neighbour's property for him to shoot? The fences only line the outer borders of the properties though, which can be tens of thousands of hectares. It would take days to walk from one side to the other. Just thought I would educate you on how things work here
@Gnulf8 жыл бұрын
well i understand your view of it, but i think you know what im thinking of to ? ;)
@SeanNelShootingSports8 жыл бұрын
Gnulf Matt is right, and remember... fences keeps many predators (including poachers) out more than they keep animals in. The spaces are huge... you still need to find your animals, you still need to get your positioning right relative to wind and grazing pattern, you still need to be a master stalker. Whether the fence is manmade, or natural (ridgeline, river, gully) its part of your hunting planning!
@Gnulf8 жыл бұрын
yes i know, stil feels wrong thou
@SeanNelShootingSports8 жыл бұрын
Each must hunt his own way, and I understand what you are saying, but the preconceived idea or concept on paper of "fenced hunting" is a very far cry from the reality. That said, I respect hunters in their environment and the way they choose to hunt in the most ethical way. To each his own...
