I'm disabled and dehydrated meals work great for me! I can't stand at the stove and cook for a long time anymore. So, when I'm in a lot of pain and can't cook they're great! I just have to turn on my kettle and I can eat meals I made on the days I could. Dehydrators are so useful!

Here's an idea for you. I take my own dehydrated vegetables, Lipton chicken or vegetable soup packets, and La Moderna Fideo noodles or something similar and I have have a very hearty and filling soup in individual servings. Start with rehydrating the veggies then add the soup package, and the noodles if using the chicken flavor. If using the packaged vegetable soup add the noodles near the end of the cook to give the veggies time to rehydrate properly. You can even add dehydrated or canned meats if you like. A bowl of this, a few slices of canned brown bread sprinkled with some butter powder or ghee, and you won't go hungry.

The best way to remove the fat is to brown the meat then add stock to it and simmer it. Then take the stock and ground meat and put them in a fairly tall container such that the liquid is covering the meat by at least 2 inches, after that put it in the fridge overnight...the fat will float to the top and harden, then you can pull all of it off easily.

You could also boil your cooked meat to get rid of excess fat.

I'm glad to know that the vacuum seal bags from FoodSaver work just as well as a freezer bag. Only thing I would do different, and this is not a ding by any mean, I would add some psyllium husk to the meals. And when I say psyllium husk I mean less than an eighth of a tablespoon. That's just to give you a little bit of fiber to get things moving along on the trail . Again this is not a ding it's just my professional opinion. Otherwise, awesome video!

I am looking to control the ingredients. Premade backpack meals are filled with terrible ingredients that cause inflammation, which in turn is bad for your body. Just getting started i the research phase. Looking for how to make my own long tern storage dehydrated meals for camping, bug out bags, hunting, etc... Great video, Thank you for taking the time to make this content.

I prefer to skip breakfast and eat a really high fat diet starting at lunch time, but one great way to get calories in is to add some grass fed butter/ ghee with some coconut or mct oil with your coffee to make “Bulletproof Coffee”. You get a ton of high fat liquid calories and the fat helps to slow down the absorption of the caffeine which keeps the caffeine kick going longer.

I’ve found that dehydrated food can make tiny holes in my vacuum seal bags. I add a paper towel to protect the bag. Seems to work and then I have a towel w each meal. Wondering if you’ve had the same problem & if not would you mind sharing which bags you are using?

Putting boiling food into a plastic bag is a great way to consume a bunch of microplastics and probably various nasty chemicals depending on the plastic used. It's not designed to hold boiling water, but rather to be frozen

When you seal a meal your mral do you ever have the food saver bags puncture from the sharp dried pieces? I seem to get quarter of mine puncture. I found if i wrapped it in a paper towel in the seal a meal bag it prevents them from puncturing and i have a napkin!

You can also dehydrate those. Just make sure you use parchment paper or paraflexx sheets to prevent the liquid from dripping through the trays. A tip for a more runny recipe is to use metal binder clips, fold the edges and corners of your parchment paper sheets and clip the corners to create a lip or an edge to prevent the liquid from running off the sheets. As of stews i substitute stew meat with ground meat/ bread crumbs. It allows for better rehydration.

@@bowhuntordie haha I suppose so. My wife does the same thing, she puts her chili on top of the noodles.............. and the first time she did it... made noodles with chili, I was kinda blown away............ because I've never seen that before. On the west coast, chili is never put in noodles, except for in goulash which is a totally different dish.
