Just added 2 balls to my arsenal so now it consists of 1) Storm Tropical Surge [Reactor Pearl] 2) Storm Absolute [Hybrid Reactive] 3) Ebonite Stinger [Pearl Reactive] 4) Ebonite Maxim [polyester]

Nice! I'm curious to see how different the Tropical Surge and Stinger are since they seem to be in a similar zone from what I can tell. Right now my 6 ball bag consists of the Zing! Solid, Theorem, Breakaway, Duo, Double Cross, and Pandemonium Solid. Lots of sport shots during the summer, so I'm having my best success with predictable shapes. For the fall I'll probably be making some changes to it, though.

Cool Informative video. I was not a fan of the Guardian. The oil would just sit on top and the ball would hydroplane the first 15 feet, which impacted the skid > hook > roll phases. I am as average as they come when it comes to speed, rev rate, and axis rotation, so I can use most anything. 1. Strong asymm 2. Strong symm solid 3. Strong symm pearl 4. Weaker asymm solid 5. Weaker symm pearl. 6. Urethane. I decided to switch from a polyester to a more versatile urethane ball as my spare option.

Thanks for the kind words! Guardian does make things weird sometimes. I've only personally seen it at one house that I bowled at on a regular basis. Since I made this video, I've also swapped to a urethane ball. It's certainly nice to have another option in the bag that can do double duty, so to speak.

Great video. Thank you….. I would drop the spare ball off the list and put the urethane number 1.
@SuterBowling

That's certainly a viable option, especially if you're limited in bag space! If you're going to shoot spares with a urethane ball, I absolutely agree. Thank you for your kind words!

This is very informative. Thank you. I suggest more of this type of content. Great work! My questions: 1. Isn’t having symmetrical and asymmetrical balls in an arsenal makes it difficult to ball up and ball down, because how different they look. I.e, you may not be able to stay on the same line on approach? 2. Is the 6 ball arsenal caters for different lane conditions or just one type of oil - e.g. heavy oil + burnt up. Which means you have another set of arsenal for the light oil condition. I am a stroker who bowl mostly on dry lanes. I have a solid symm for benchmark, a pearl symm and a polyester. All the balls are for medium to light oil. I am planning to add more balls. Appreciate any bits of thoughts on this to help me decide what balls to add.

Hi there! Thank you for the kind words. For your questions: 1. You're correct that you likely won't be able to play the same line with an asymmetrical solid that you would a symmetrical pearl ball, but that doesn't make it more difficult. Having a wider arsenal allows you to be more adaptable to the conditions that are in front of you. You are likely to run into a condition that you can't throw your favorite ball on your favorite line, and having different options allows you to cover a wider variety of situations. 2. This a very generic way of building an arsenal to help cover a wide variety of conditions you may face. If you only bowl at one center and they put out a fairly consistent shot, then you may only need the solid symm, pearl symm, and polyester balls that you currently have. If you are looking to go from a 3 to a 6 ball arsenal for the condition you normally bowl on, you could go for a symmetric hybrid, a pearl asym, and a pearl hybrid. If you want to build more of a tournament arsenal, you may want to look into a solid asym instead of a symmetric hybrid. Without seeing you bowl, it's hard to tell you for sure what exactly you need, but if you're a stroker who likes to play up the boards and you bowl on drier conditions, then you have a pretty solid arsenal from what it sounds like. Don't be afraid to adjust the surface of the ball as well if you find that one of those two aren't matching up quite right. The very best advice I can give you is to talk to your local pro shop owner and see what they say based on what you told me and let them see you throw a few shots. They'll be able to get a much better feel for your game. Hope this helps!

Hi there! This video should give you a starting point of what you might want to look for in an arsenal. With that being said, I highly recommend you reach out to your local pro shop owner and ask if they will watch you bowl and help you figure out what will work best for you.

Excellent video, however, the "most important" aspect of a bowling ball is NOT the core .. it is the cover stock. The core is responsible for less than 15% of a balls characteristics, but still important, it's just not the most important component affecting ball characteristics and performance.
@SuterBowling
@SuterBowling 10 ай бұрын
I absolutely agree, which is why I didn't say that the core is the most important aspect. I said it's one of the most important aspects when it comes to what the ball does on the lane.

@@SuterBowling - I think you covered the importance of the core as it pertains to the down lane reaction, basically the flip phase between hook and role phases. That's where the core really come into play. Thank man! .. keep up the great videos!!!

Depending on whether you use your thumb when bowling two handed or not, you'll certainly need different equipment for each style given USBC rules regarding extra holes. The best advice I could give is if you plan on continuing bowling that way, work with your local pro shop to build a well-rounded arsenal for both styles if you can afford it. In my own opinion, the best option would be to pick one style or the other and stick with it. The fewer variables in your game, the more repeatable it will be. This is where a good coach would come into play.

I disagree with the premise of this video. Someone asking how to build an arsenal doesn’t need an arsenal. Benchmark/Spare ball is all anyone needs up until they have a deep understanding of the game. A Strong/Weak/Spare 3 ball bag is more than enough for anyone to reach a 200 average on a league house shot. Option paralysis kills new bowlers game and hinders their ability to learn adjustments. Unless you’re bowling regular tournaments on a variety of sport patterns, you don’t need this. Source: currently averaging 215 with a two ball bag

Going to have to strongly disagree with the thought that someone asking how to build is an arsenal doesn't need one. That would be like saying "someone who doesn't know how to change a tire doesn't need to know how to change a tire since they would already know how to if they did." Gatekeeping knowledge doesn't do anything but dissuade people from taking an interest in the sport. The benchmark/spare sentiment was true in the 90's, but the game has changed. If every single lane was oiled exactly the same, had the same topography, the temperature was the exact same every day, and the humidity was the exact same every day, then you could make an argument like this, but there are variables that cause inconsistencies even within the same center. I don't disagree that a 3 ball arsenal can be sufficient on most THS's, but if it was that easy the national average for sanctioned bowlers wouldn't be around 160. I agree that the most important thing for a new bowler is to develop a solid foundation through their physical game, but for bowlers who are in the intermediate stage and looking to take the next step, there is nothing wrong with building an arsenal. A 215 average is very good. If you had a larger arsenal, you may be able to match-up better to different conditions you may face, even if your weekly league. That 215 could be 220! Thanks for your input, and keep putting the work in!

@@SuterBowling wow, thanks for the lengthy reply. Respect and a sub for taking the time out of your day to type all that out and keep the difference of opinion from becoming a salty argument. My intent was never to gate keep knowledge, quite the opposite in fact. I believe that order of operations needs to be part of that knowledge. Much like you wouldn’t put a student driver in an F1 car and start explaining brake bias and DRS strategy, I think arsenal building isn’t where I would start someone still trying to figure stuff out. Here is what I want to avoid. A new bowler sees this video and goes, I need to spend 1200-1500$ in equipment to even start. This steep cost of entry also feels like gate keeping. Then in a year or two, the purple hammer they bought is an illegal piece, and two others have cracked because they never see use that far down in the bag. And that 6-700$ that just went down the drain could have been better spent joining another league, lessons, or tournaments. At the end of the day, we all want to see our sport grow, and to me, I just don’t see that happening when the new guys are being told they need to spend four figures in to pro shop before they hit the lanes.

@@LogicalQthis video is for someone like me. Naturally pretty decent at bowling, but not very in tune with the science. Walking around with 1 ball for years averaging 175 and topping out in the 250s a friend of mine retired and gave me all of his 16 lb balls since he couldn’t lift them. I drilled and threw all of them, kept the three that behaved the most differently to give me range and it helped. I didn’t know why each ball did what it did, but it was very evident and I knew the range would help. Average popped up to the 190s, won a league, finished second in another. Then it all got stolen and I’ve been struggling since trying to get the line up right and system down to get back into a groove, especially after not bowling for a few years and trying to get back into it now. So I’m grateful for these types but completely understand what your intent is.

Hi there! If only it was as simple as that, then we would all be 240 bowlers! Today's conditions are about matching up, and knowing the equipment you have and what's available is vital to achieve the best score possible. There will be times where the conditions get tricky enough that you may need three or four different looks in order to achieve the best results. Where do you bowl that the lanes are bad but you can still shoot 240? Also, did you know they still make White Dots? They make an excellent spare ball!
