Something to note that nobody ever says, is that you can polish any grit. You can do 500 grit polish, for a long sharp motion. Or 4000 polish for a long smooth motion

I had a woodworking teacher tell me "The higher the grit, the finer it gets". I've always used this saying to teach others what sandpaper is doing to a surface

Good explanation but I think you left out one thing. I've noticed that a lot of bowlers don't know what 1500 grit polish means. It's really simple though. The ball is just sanded down to 1500 grit then polish is applied after.
