I absolutely love wood lanes. Of course sometimes maintenance has become an issue, wood over synthetic every time.
@jessnicholascenterfireecon83822 жыл бұрын
Does my heart good to see one of these on wood every now and then. There are skills you develop on wood that you just can't approximate on synthetics, no matter how they're set up. And this is our history, our roots as a sport. I don't think you gave yourself proper credit for this showing. This was harder than you probably think, especially for someone who doesn't seem to have a lot of background on these conditions. I think that speaks well of your skillset that you were able to post this kind of finish.
@s1l3nc3r3 Жыл бұрын
This is so true. One of my favorite things about wood lanes, is also one of the worst parts about wood lanes. Like here in Florida, if it's raining before they oil the lanes, if any of the moisture from outside in the air gets into the center, it makes guessing the lanes almost impossible. The oil will have areas that will puddle up in certain parts, and you have to figure out how to avoid those spots on the lane making for a fun shot, that will also piss you off.

I bowled on wood lanes beginning in 1979 and changed to synthetic in 1998. It is like the difference between water skiing on choppy water or glass. Each wood lane is unique making changing lanes more difficult.

I agree. My local lanes have 2 lane sets that are night and day. 15&16 and 7&8. Night and day in league play. Then there's my old home lanes. Lane 4 has a good lean to the left. You could be the world's straightest bowler and hook on that lane. I have to bring plastic and come up the back to try to put it in the sweet spot.

Was going to say the same thing. We called it the "dump shot" where I grew up. Back when I threw one-handed, you would just start with your hand out from behind the ball, almost a suitcase delivery. Very little lift on the ball and try to feed it about one arrow over from wherever you laid it down (i.e., if you were targeting 15, run it out to 10). The idea was to get a hook/set look from the ball. If you did it right, the only real question was whether you were going to carry the corners.

Packy, the difference between Wood and Synthetic Lanes is how the lanes Breakdown during bowling. Wood down the lane, lane oil get absorbed into the Wood and hooks more the Back Half of the Lane. On Synthetic, using Reactive balls Dry up the Front part of the lane and lane oil get carried down the lane and the ball does not hook as much.

I bowled on wood lanes all the time in many different bowling centers until I quit around 1990. On some oil patterns the lanes were very easy. On some oil patterns the lanes were hard. It depended on how the lanes were oiled and whether the house or tournament director wanted lower scores or higher scores. I preferred the lanes not to be easy. I did prefer oil and did not do well on very dry lanes.
@pointzerotwo2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I quit in 1988, determining the same thing you observed in 1990. They put out a particular shot, and selected only a few to inform them where it was.

Wow those heads look fried! I like your lofting strategy to get over that. Did you ever try throwing a short pin pearl/hybrid or a 5" pin down to get a reactive ball to push through that part? @Packy - its time to add your thumb back into the ball as a two hander man so you can really spin it when you need to :)

@@TheHouseBowling I understand where you're coming from. I waited until the off season to switch. For me, it brought my pap from 5 over and 2 down to 5 over and 1.25 up. It also changed my tilt from basically 0 to 7°. Now my balls actually get down the lane instead of always reading early and burning up. The addition of my thumb helps me create more changes to my release than before as well. I haven't recorded any major change to my rev rate. Its not for everyone, but for me it was a positive change, my average went up and I get more carry and pin action.
