Does my heart good to see one of these on wood every now and then. There are skills you develop on wood that you just can't approximate on synthetics, no matter how they're set up. And this is our history, our roots as a sport. I don't think you gave yourself proper credit for this showing. This was harder than you probably think, especially for someone who doesn't seem to have a lot of background on these conditions. I think that speaks well of your skillset that you were able to post this kind of finish.
@s1l3nc3r3 Жыл бұрын
This is so true. One of my favorite things about wood lanes, is also one of the worst parts about wood lanes. Like here in Florida, if it's raining before they oil the lanes, if any of the moisture from outside in the air gets into the center, it makes guessing the lanes almost impossible. The oil will have areas that will puddle up in certain parts, and you have to figure out how to avoid those spots on the lane making for a fun shot, that will also piss you off.

I agree. My local lanes have 2 lane sets that are night and day. 15&16 and 7&8. Night and day in league play. Then there's my old home lanes. Lane 4 has a good lean to the left. Was going to say the same thing. We called it the "dump shot" where I grew up. Back when I threw one-handed, you would just start with your hand out from behind the ball, almost a suitcase delivery. Very little lift on the ball and try to feed it about one arrow over from wherever you laid it down (i.e., if you were targeting 15, run it out to 10). The idea was to get a hook/set look from the ball. If you did it right, the only real question was whether you were going to carry the corners.

I bowled on wood lanes all the time in many different bowling centers until I quit around 1990. On some oil patterns the lanes were very easy. On some oil patterns the lanes were hard. It depended on how the lanes were oiled and whether the house or tournament director wanted lower scores or higher scores. I preferred the lanes not to be easy. I did prefer oil and did not do well on very dry lanes.

I like hooking for spares, there's only 3 lanes you need to be in for most spares. Splits are a different story because you need to be more accurate, but still you can increase your chances by knowing your hook lanes.
@PapaPorpoise2473 жыл бұрын
Packy said his spareball hooked. I have that problem a lot as a two hander, even with shiny plastic. I understand that I could just flatten my hand, but I thought the point of plastic was to be able to release the ball normally and still have it go straight. How do you guys throw your plastic ball?

I miss wood Lanes. It was so upsetting when the last wood house in my area went to synthetic Lanes. Wood Lanes will make a bowler out of you. @@TheHouseBowling it's been probably 15 years since I've bowled on Wood lanes unfortunately. They are very hard that's what I liked about them. You have to adjust and move your line just about every shot. I'm a fan of having to use your talent and your skill to bowl not just power and see how many strikes I can throw. I know these wood lanes are hard but I hope you guys appreciate bowling on them because they just aren't around anymore. Before my accident I bowled 4 leagues and tournaments every weekend. I would drive 4 hours for a tournament with a tough shot when my local bowling alley had a tournament with a house shot. I'm not a big fan of the carry contest tournaments. Yeah it's fun throwing a lot of strikes but when all you have to do is throw it right and watch it hook back there's not much talent involved. It's been a lot of fun watching everybody in the house get better and better. All of you guys are starting to kick ass and it's a lot of fun to watch keep it up fellas.
