Very informative. Speaking of things coming in damaged, I just got an order, and all but two of the knives had been sharpened over the years and now have a curve from the bottom of the bolster about 1/2 way to the belly, so the Tormek wheel isn't making contact. Suggestions? I'd love to see a video on this, as I'd have to believe this to be fairly common.

Send me a picture if you can [e-mail] to be sure I understand but if I’m correct in understanding your description the proper correction would be to lower the belly of the knife to be in proper geometry with the rest of the blade. Now I would also be sure to tell and show the customer why and what needs to be done because to fix this the knife is going to look very different since the proper removal of metal that should have happened over years didn’t left them with a very out of normal knife geometry blade.

Great video, Paul. A Question: At 14:34 when you start stropping, you comment "I like to run at about 1400 rpm on these sewing machine motors". Could you clarify? The Bucktool 2x42 isn't variable speed is it? It doesn't appear to be converted to a sewing machine motor.

Yes mine is converted I did a video on it probably over a year ago mine is run with an arbor cupping attached to the drive or the original motor and the same motors used to convert a 1x30 so it can go both directions

I had to order a second one from BuckTools and cut it myself I have to check them out because at the guild meeting the other night guys told me they have some new models for sharpening.

No I use the sewing machine motor you just can't see it out of frame but its still there and the only motor I use. I have never used the OEM motor

Thank you for another amazing video. Evidently, I have been removing chips the wrong way this whole time. I was always under the impression you want to hold the blade almost perfectly straight up and down or vertically to the belt and rock it side to side (Not heel to tip) down the blade to remove the chips. I am so embarrassed by what I thought I always knew to be correct smh

Not sarcasm at all, sincerely the way I was taught and have been doing it. I am glad to see this because the way I do it removes the nicks but totally dulls the blade in the process.

@@kennyhallam I tend to just take a steep angle and grind. I don’t ever go flat. Some people do I don’t like it because then you have to thin the knife again.
