That was very helpful for my 1st year Engineering mechanics homework, thanks captain rod ! .

Can you define the gravitational datum as the bottom of the ramp? And call PE2 the compressed spring?
@rod79445 жыл бұрын
You sure can.
@rod79445 жыл бұрын
But, if you put the datum at the bottom, your PE2 would have a gravitational term due to the height difference between the bottom of the ramp, and the location of the box. The PE1 term would also need to include that distance as well. The choice of datum in the video removes the gravitation term for position 2

Is there any example without angle?

Well, what do you mean by saying "without angle", if you mean on plain surface without angle there is no gravitational force involved in the X-axis, so it is simply the kinetic energy and the potential energy from the spring you have to take into account, in that case it's simply the same but without changing the gravitational datum. If that's not what you meant I would like to know what did you mean, thanks.

@@yuvalbenkimhi2129 That is what I meant. Thank you. Follow-up question. Say after the block has reached the surface after falling from said height, how would you find the acceleration and distance traveled of said object?
