If you want to avoid seeing the boxes marking or labels you can cut one side corners and flip the box inside out and tape the corner. Meaning the labels or box marking would be on the inside. Not sure if that came out clear enough. Lol

This is a great tip for aesthetics that I wish I'd put in the video actually. I've done this plenty, though I usually don't bother turning a box inside out, unless I'm using it to mail a parcel.
@TheRetrollectors2 жыл бұрын
@@TopSpot123 I do the same when it comes to mailing parcels as well. Glad I could help.

I believe this is inspiration for not just game-related collections but also other things I collect on the regular. 👍 It's a good thing I'm working at a grocery store, which I can freely acquire cardboard to reconstruct into boxes at home. Though I should take note of the more appropriate sizes for consistency since the size varies between product cases I tend to.

There are good arguments for having containers sized exactly for what they contain, but I find more benefits to having everything be a similar dimension. You should always do what works best for you!

I have ONE big storage container for the oldest of systems. Anything before the PS3 isn't as delicate, so you don't have to worry too much about the weight of everything. But, what I also do, and I was inspired by GeekyTipster, I put wires and controllers together in on big Zip Top bag and have them labeled. I have no trouble finding the Consoles, they're big and bulky and the I just got to keep my eyes peeled for the controllers in the giant Bin.
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
That sounds reasonable. I store some things in one big bin, but I use if for my Rock Band and Guitar Hero guitars. They fit pretty well, all things considered.

Great video. I wound up accumulating a wild amount of Kuggis boxes from IKEA over the years. They stack modularly with a bunch of different sizes. I do use cardboard for things I use infrequently because I tape them up enough to add structural integrity.

Very cool. I don't have an IKEA anywhere near me, but those look really nice and modern. Thanks for sharing!

I have to admit I have Ikea stuff which helps store my collection. I have a Ikea unit before the kallax ones which had different sized compartments which is where I have my consoles on display. I store my games in Billy bookcases and the consoles and accessories I use the tjena boxes with lids to keep it looking tidy

IKEA makes many extremely useful things, but I don't have an IKEA store anywhere near me so I think I have one of the rare game rooms without any IKEA products in it! Thanks for contributing your experience!

The ending was very Wilson of you. I like to put everything game related on display, but for the few items I don't have space for, I use plastic boxes. My mentality is: buy the real thing once instead of buying a compromise and replacing it with the real thing later, which costs more money and produces more waste. This is of course only possible if you have the funds to do that. I would use boxes I have lying around until I have the money to buy what I really want.
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
Doing things the right way once is a good personal policy to have. I was always brought up with the mentality of making do or making the best out of what's available to you. So many times our 'temporary' solutions made out of desperation ended up being semi-permanent, lol.

Used and use cardboard moving boxes for storing my consoles. But I’m switching, since the cardboard boxes start to get weak after opening and moving around them a lot. The same issue i also have with cheap plastic bins. They are a bit to weak and if you store a lot in it they break. Best as is said in the clips, don’t go to big.
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
I hope you find a good box to switch to. Thanks for watching, it's really appreciated.

one could always get some (thickish) post-consumer flat clear piece of plastic from the garbage and cut a hole in the box a bit smaller than the plastic and create a view window into the box. I did this to store christmas ornaments. I used superglue for this. Not pretty on the inside but that doesn't matter. Also, takes lots of time but something like what kikomoda and mr. diy and Maria amora can help with techniques on thickening boxes. I like glueing multiple layers together and doing a paper mache cover, like the latter yt I listed does. Very rigid boxes result.
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
That's a pretty novel idea, really. For those situations where you need to see inside that would definitely work!

I prefer shoe boxes, they are more common (Here in Chile) and they have the perfect size for store games. So, I have a idea for both me and you, we could make a Collab for making shoe boxes a perfect alternative for storing games (And slimmer/tinier consoles too)
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
I used shoe boxes for storage a lot when I was younger, and I still have a few being used in my garage. In fact, I like boxes like that with an attached lid or a lid that goes down over the sides. But I don't know of a way to get cardboard shoe boxes here other than when you buy shoes!

I have 4 of those Sterilite hinge lid boxes. I love them but hate the curved bottom. What are the dimensions of your beloved Bug Juice boxes? I have definitely built up an small obsession with cardboard boxes. It party comes from having a garage full of crap and partly from selling on ebay and needing boxes to ship in. I always tape the seams when shipping in a cardboard box.
@TopSpot1232 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the curved bottom (and top) are an inconvenience, but I'm pretty sure they add some strength. The Bug Juice box is approximately 7"x10"x15". It's a great all purpose size and great for media. I used to have a dozen more but I gave them to family members to use as small moving boxes. And in my past I was much more active with selling on eBay. I have a couple cases of eBay branded USPS boxes in a couple of different sizes as well, and USPS packing tape. They were all free but it's a violation to use them for anything other than priority shipping!

YES, I currently use Cardboard boxes. I mainly use Short Comic book boxes. They are a bit expensive, but they work great for moving and long term storage for games. Short Comic boxes fit almost every game except for the NEO Geo AES in box, CDI tall boxes, and the 3DO Tall boxes. For those games I use printer paper boxes that I get Free from work. YES! labels are a must. I have a video about this as well kzbin.info/www/bejne/jaGQkGOklNh3m8k

After the flood I had a few years ago, I would never store anything in a cardboard box. Entire Nintendo Power collection, gone. Full runs of comics, gone. Posters, gone. All gone. The few things I had in plastic boxes were fine unless the water went over the lid.
