TL;DR: I'm a Jayce main and they made Jayce less of an asshole than he was in the OG lore and that made me happy. For those willing to read a whole-ass essay (SPOILERS): The best thing about Arcane is that it rewrites a lot of the main characters to make them more believable and likeable, and transplants their most negative qualities to the show's villains. The OG League lore says that Jayce is just an antisocial egomaniac because he thinks he's god's gift to science and that his arrogance made him impossible to work with. It also says that Viktor was basically a sociopath and was more than happy to strip someone of their free will in the interest of removing human imperfections. In the show, Jayce is never portrayed as arrogant and Viktor never immoral. They are both brilliant scientists with a great desire to help people. Jayce shows immense respect for Heimerdinger and even Vi, a low-born Zaunite. He is never condescending to his colleagues, and is well-liked by just about everybody. He's also put in an incredibly difficult position as a council member and clearly struggles trying to navigate the nuanced balance of pleasing the council members and fulfilling his goal of helping the citizens of Piltover. Viktor only does experimentation on plants and himself, mostly to buy himself more time to live and help people through science, and he's wrought with grief after the accident that kills Sky. Instead of Viktor killing people and putting their brains into Battlecast soldiers, it's Silco making Shimmer juggernauts to enforce and protect his assets. Instead of Jayce being an arrogant ass, it's the council being condescending towards lesser houses and apathetic to the problems that plague Zaun, as well as Heimerdinger being oblivious to why Jayce and Viktor wanting to progress science quickly because he's a yordle and pretty much lives forever. They did similar things with Cait and Jinx. Cait isn't a one-dimensional "criminals are bad" cop. She is made empathetic to the plight of Zaunites and tries to bring it to the council's attention, with Marcus working to suppress her to protect his family and personal interests as a dirty cop involved with Silco. Jinx isn't just "boom boom anarchy chaos." She's deeply traumatized and Silco's brainwashing causes a severe internal conflict between Powder, her true self, and Jinx, the monster Silco turned her into. Singed is the only one who doesn't get this treatment. He's just a crazy, albeit ingenious, doctor with no ethical code.

Well said but 2 things I disagree with/want to mention: It wasn't just Silco who turned Powder into Jinx. There's the physical/vocal outburst from Vi (smacking her and literally calling her a jinx) and then running away, leading up to the most unfortunate moment of miscommunication when Vi is unable to save/get to Powder because Marcus chloroforms Vi. So Jinx truly thinks Vi abandoned her, and has trouble believing Vi when Vi tells her the truth years later. If Vi isn't chloroformed and gets to Powder, Silco would probably kill Vi, but Powder would still be Powder, as she'd see Silco kill her sister who was trying to save her. + Singed using shimmer and maybe other chemicals/augments that make her completely shed Powder and fully become Jinx. Also, Singed definitely has at least has some depth to him to be believable/understandable (but defintiely not likable). When he meets child Viktor, he expresses the idea of sacrificing the original form to preserve a unique/rare species. He has an ethical code, it's just very skewed probably due to being an outcast his whole life. Keeping Jinx alive by making her more crazy is a parallel to his pet Rio that he keeps alive just to keep alive. Which is what Viktor learns and soon agrees with when Vik's health becomes terminal.

As far as Jayce telling the council members he didn't care what they though, I wouldn't say it was arrogance so much as it was him being fed up with their petty woes of business and trade when the city was going through a humanitarian crisis haha.

I'm so glad to see some more Viktor appreciation, but also thanks for giving us so much tft content. I absolutely love it. Though what I loved just as much as your content is the scene where Viktor ends up absorbing the power of the Hexcore while disintegrating Skye in the process. For me, it's so well done to show how Viktor is slowly losing his humanity and becoming more and more obsessed with his GLORIOUS EVOLUTION.
