William, It has been suggested to me by 2 gurus from the Airlist, that my new sluggish throttle response experienced a couple days ago on my 83 R80RT might be due to a torn diaphragm. So your excellent posting was perfect timing for me to atempt to effect a repair the right way. BTW, the website parts layout is superb. Thanks from Seattle

I was JUST getting ready to order parts for rebuilding the carbs on my R75/6, even have a partial cart put together on your website. This vid came at a perfect time! I’ll admit, I was pricing out options from a few different places (some of the parts I need are back ordered on Boxer2Valve) but you folk providing these videos are reason enough (though your awesome phone support helps too) to support you with my purchasing.

Thanks so much. We really appreciate the support. It we are out of something, it's usually not for long. You can check with us regarding availability. Often when we are out of a part, we have some more on the way and it may just be a few days away or less.

Thanks William!!! Have been wanting to attempt the rebuild on the carbs on my 1980 R65 but never had the confidence to do so.....until watching your video! Finished off about 2 hours ago and took the bike out for a ride - feels like a new bike!! Best airhead videos i've come across by far! We have a good friend in North Carolina so when we eventually get the chance to visit, i'll have to drop by and thank you in person!!! Keep up the amazing work! Mark - Johannesburg, South Africa!!

Great stuff again, William. Much appreciated from the other side of the globe. Your silky skills made it a smooth run dismantling the carbs, fortunate in avoiding seized up venturi (the part the main jet screws into). I was not so lucky and had to use heat, reverse thread 'easy out' and some drilling. Looks like stale fuel had caused corrosion, thereby seizing the brass against the alloy housing. I had a great time with my Airhead for three years in Zimbabwe, in the late Eighties, when the fuel was a high percentage alcohol (from sugar cane). The diaphragms split after only two years but, otherwise, those carbs really did a tremendous job! I've painted the Bing name and the BMW logo white, on the black riveted blanking covers, as I think that's how they were originally. I could see you were thrilled with the o-ring fitting tool kit, in it's charming box. That was very thoughtful of the gifter. I'm sure they'll be proud to know how highly you rate the gift.

I have found it really important when cleaning the carb... to check the condition of the choke disc holes. Since the oriface plate is kept tight against the rotating disc with a tight spring... I carefully pry is open a little bit and put a small drill bit or allen wrench between the two discs to keep them separate.. and then really clean out the holes. they tend to get slale dried gas in them. Once they are blown out with air and carb cleaner... I remove the drill bit and put it back together. Really helps with the cold starts.

Great video, as usual. However, it raises a question. When the float is adjust as you demonstrate, what is the result in terms of fuel in the bowl? A well-respected BMW mechanic has stated the 32 mm Bings should show 24mm of fuel in the bowls, but I can't get that much, no matter how I bend the tab on the float.

Hi I have a 1974 BMW r60/6 that has a problem that nobody can solve. When I start the engine, the rev counter marks 1200rpm and after some time it starts to accelerate by itself until it reaches close to 3000rpm. This happens after 6 to 8 minutes. I wonder why? It have 2 carburetors Bing 1/26/123 and 124. Thanks

As ever, fantastic video which complements the manual. You mentioned the secondary air system, as a UK rider I would really appreciate your view, keep it or disgard. Not a requirement in the UK, pros/cons? Many thanks
@boxer2valve
@boxer2valve 4 жыл бұрын
If not a requirement, Disgard. The system pumps air into the exhaust port. The added oxygen increases the temperature to burn the unburnt fuel (hydrocarbons). The excessive heat takes its toll on the exhaust valves and seats.
