He was the best in Europe in his prime but rated in the lower end of the top ten internationally with only American heavyweights above him. He, more importantly, is a real gentleman. Modest and polite.

I met Frank when I were 6 years old when my mum (now recently passed away from cancer) took me to the opening of the Notting hill arts centre about 26 odd year ago. I had the audacity to cheekily ask him how many fights he won of which he jokingly responded 'your going to have to ask my secretary that one young man, because I've lost count' whilst laughing his infamous chuckle and shaking my hand....an absolute legend, peace be with you and your family Frank.

Here in the UK we are so proud of this man. Frank is our national treasure. I like how James just chats with no script or notes, the sign of a truly gifted interviewer. My uncle Jim murray fought for the British title in 1995 and unfortunately collapsed in the 12th round due to a bleed in the brain and died a few days later and the full boxing world was shook and he’s the main reason more action is took to ensure boxers are regularly checked for any signs of brain injury’s… frank bruno actually called my late grandfather at the time of my uncles death and offered his condolences to my family, gentleman through and through.

Frank got a lot of abuse when he was active and yes he did fight a fair amount of duffers towards the end of his career but at his best he really fought some of the top guys like Tyson, Lewis, Witherspoon, Tillis, Bonecrusher, Biggs, Ribalta etc. Didn't win them all of course but always gave everything he had. Very tough dude.

Tillis gave Mike Tyson one of his hardest fights at that time, the mid 1980's. About a year after Tyson fought him, Frank absolutely annihilated Tillis, in 1987 I think. On the BBC, with Mike Tyson on commentary with Harry Carpenter!! Tyson was genuinely respectful and really liked Harry.

I agree with this, James is the best interviewer on the net in my opinion, always very interesting guests and he is always very respectful and lets them speak to us. Too many interviewers just butt in and spoil the talking but James is careful about when to engage, he's a very tactful, genuine and respectful guy with real empathy.
