I was listening to a Jack Slack podcast recently, and he was speculating that the Mexican style is that way because there isn't much of an amateur scene there, and guys go pro really early. The action fighting style is incentivized to get attention and become a fan favorite so that you make money faster.

Yes much more pro focused than in the States and the Aztec warrior spirit they are very big on. Very macho and if you even look on music the polka style music they got from the German influence is more rigid then the more swinging and jazzy Latin. That's my hot take from boxing down there and being around the culture.

Same, I have his agility drills one and lateral one and even subscribed to his patron for some time. He is an exceptionally good analyst and has a legitimate systematic approach to boxing, especially applied to kickboxing or MMA. One criticism I would have is that he sometimes gets carried away with the criticism and sometimes has bouts of arrogance.

When he does the jab cross and lands in that squared off stance for that instance, I really don’t see why a guy can’t without moving their feet just throw their right outward a bit in the “North-East” direction to catch your head. Heck, I’ve seen some fights where guys land a big left hook to move the head to the right , and as the guys head goes to the right they throw the right cross like that to meet it for a devastating KO. I don’t really see why Marvin acts as if a guy can ONLY deploy offense when an opponent is directly in-front of them 🤔

@coachKeithKeppner4 ай бұрын
They are different things my friend and as I have stated in my video art operates in the realm of physics, but that doesn't make it science. Science should be completely replicatable and art doesn't have to be at all and that is where I think boxing is more of an art form and martial arts vs martial science.

@@coachKeithKeppner as a multidisciplinary artist i beg to differ. Without the fundamentals like thirds, color theory, geometry, symmetry, balance, light calculation, depth etc. good art simply cannot be achieved. All great pieces that transcend time are incredibly mathematical. Now, in order to achieve mastery one must push the boundaries. You first learn the rules (science/theory) so you can then break them. Regardless of the disagreement, great work and cheers from Puerto Rico.

I like the majority of what Tom talks about. I feel like to keep things interesting he talks about some esoteric stuff and I feel that the default stance Is a little unique. One of the things I love about him the most is when he did that video with Jones talking about the left hook and how it is really thrown because I've seen so many ridiculous demonstrations in the past in real life and on the internet LOL!

Marvins footwork philosphy has helped me with staying in position to be able to strike when moving in most directions. Does not work as well moving forward for me however. This is against kickboxer and MMA fighters though. I have not tried it against proven boxers yet. I am not all the way through the video as I am just 9 minutes in but I get the sense you do not agree with him so far. So my question to you is if you believe there to be more effective methods/techniques for footwork, would you mind doing a video on it to get pretty much the same purpose out of it that marvin is going for?
@coachKeithKeppner4 ай бұрын
Yeah man and thanks for the comment! To be clear a lot of the pieces he teaches are 100 percent standard boxing anyone teaches. He just represents it as something few do or teach or whatever and then boxes it into a limited number of "true" things vs options or parts of the technical landscape. Like siding up and circling with punches is one of many great techniques, stepping with punches can be great as well! 🔥

Man such a great point!! (Long response lol) I have produced built multiple pro fighters from the ground up to name a couple undefeated pro guys, Jamarcus Polain and Octavious Bowens. It's because of their hard work they are good, but I took them from never putting on a pair of gloves to becoming good boxers whoa re successful. Just last year another fighter I built from scratch Christian Andrade 132 was southeastern GG champ etc etc I mean how long you want me to go... I'm pretty transparent with my coaching and will actually say names. I boxed for years in US and in Mexico, I sparred multiple times with 2X national Mex champ Elder Hernandez (and more random name drops) I had Lyme disease (almost was permanently disabled from it) while I boxed which made it hard for me to stay in shape to fight as often as I should of for the amount of time I trained and sparred so I only had 1 USA Boxing registered fight during my time. It's funny my wife has 22 fights so waaaay more than me lol... My friend I'm sorry if I'm rubbing you the wrong way, I'm lending my advice from experience of not just being around boxing, but being mentored and raised by a pro boxing coach father, I did fight and I have built fighters for over a decade now. I never said Marvin was a fraud and I did my best to highlight where I agree with him and give another perspective. My biggest thing disagreement is how he frames what he is teaching as I hope you see in the vid. Where's the hate?

I dont know jack shitt about boxing, but, im actually a big fan of the Platonic forms. Im not seeing why the idea of "a true", or set of archetypal boxing stances, is absurd. I know boxing is dynamic and all that, but people say that about everything - and pretend things are more complicated than they are (not saying thats the case here)...You can land a hip toss any number of ways, but it does seem like theres an approximate sweet spot that knocks a person's air out and feels amazing. Is the same not also true in boxing?.. "World Class Boxing" channel teaches something like a Platonic stance, it strikes me hes got a big ol boxing dick....I do feel like that stance aint no good for shorter boxers though... Love your longass vids.
@coachKeithKeppner3 ай бұрын
Thanks brother and yes, plenty of people of various levels have attempted to devise their true system but with any system in dynamic environments with different body types etc. And different strategies That is where the variance comes into play. Let me attempt an analogy to explain variance and lack of a one and only or absolute best way That is 100% true all the time. Take an oak tree, an oak tree is defined in many ways and every oak tree is pretty much the same, but how its branches grow out and even its genetic code varies. So with boxing, there are many principles that I've found are shared by successful fighters, just like all of the oak trees that are successful. But there are many different fractal designs in the way that the oak tree is expressed. That's a little bit esoteric, but I hope that makes some sense
@theadventuresofkiwi54723 ай бұрын
@@coachKeithKeppner yeah that absolutely makes sense. That was a badass anology, loved it. I had to look up what fractal means but that makes alot of sense... Have a nice one and thank u for the answer. I like the long vids btw.

Something always seemed a bit off with this guys coaching style. It seems a bit hit or miss for me. His foot position always seems too aligned relativize to his target so he looks off balance. Perhaps because he is pigeon toed or has odd leg morphology or something. I have some students who almost can't help but to align their feet like that because of the body type.
