The original was a little too The WBish (there's a reason UPN was more popular all 11 years straight, and was a real Warner Bros. network way more, I'm reviving UPN and creating WB, a real Warner Bros. network with no "The" before "WB," no Tribune, no frog, no "dubba," "dubba," "dubba"). No coincidently, the movie aired on The WB in 2003 or 2005. This movie aired on MyNetworkTV (or depending on when in 2006 this came out, maybe even UPN in its last months). Both movies had cute lovable protagonists who were hot. But the 2000 movie suffered from Tribune influence. And Eliza Dushku being in that movie, I can't stand that "Friends"-watching "Seinfeld"-hating bitch.
