Footnote : Colonel Taviton is based on a historical figure. He was a Colonel of dragoons in the American War of Independence. His name was Banastre Tarleton. In reality he SURVIVED the war and came back to Britain as a national hero and later became a Member of Parliament. Apparently, like the evil Colonel in "The Patriot" he massacred American prisoners in cold blood, burnt houses and property and other atrocities. There's even a pub hotel in England named after him. In Yorkshire. Where else ? Just in case any Americans decide to spend the night there, and (accidentally) set fire to it during the night. 😂🤣😅😆🤣

Sweet vengeance
@claytonwhitman261113 сағат бұрын
There is NOTHING sweet about this. NOTHING AT ALL. No amount of "vengeance" or "justice" or anything will ever replace his beloved son. Nothing will fill that hole, nothing will assuage that grief, nothing will ever make what just happened to his family (ALL OF IT) "ok". His children will remember this to their last days: the day they lost thier brother, and the day they lost their innocence of the world, and the day that they saw what their father is truly capable of. Even though their father is driven to this by love, and grief, and the need and duty to protect his family, the spectacle of seeing their brother murdered, and then their father go "on the warpath" and kill all those soldiers in very violent and bloody hand to hand combat, is truly frightening and terrifying. And what happened with the last remaining soldier, is just heartbreaking all around. No one should have to see that, no one should ever have to do this, to be capable of this level of controlled fury and rage and violence. And yet, therre will always be monsters out there, truely evil people, and they will only ever be stopped by someone who is willing to fight them toe to toe, hand to hand, and not stop or show any mercy whatsoever, until that monstrous enemy is Dead. The really terrible thing, is what happens to you, when you have to be the one to pick up that weapon, and fight that monster. What happens to your humanity? What happens to your soul? No, there is nothing sweet to be found here, just darkness all around. Be careful of staring into the Abyss too long. After a while, it will stare back into You.

For the most part, the British officers did not consider it a war, but an insurection. Therefore the Rules of War (especially the treatment of prisoners, the wounded, and non-combatants) did not apply. No quarter was given.
@claytonwhitman261113 сағат бұрын
Which makes a very good argument, that had the British Officers treated the colonists as soldiers, and treated this as a war and gone by the accepted rules of war, it is very possible the colonists would never have gotten the support they needed in order to beat the British. You can very well argue that their continued mistreatment of colonials, and colonial soldiers, is what drove them to that final fury where they would never surrender, never give up. And then, afterall, the colonists where fighting for thier lives, their familes, their homes, and the British were mostly conscripted soldiers, fighting a war they didn't want to fight, in a land they didn't want to be in.
