This was a great movie but the end was very sad. Kai was a man of honor and courage ABOVE those required to be a samurai. He learned the lighting fast technique of the yellow robed priests and could beat any samurai.

Still, I don't think they had some kind of obligation to follow the events 1 for 1 in that movie (Especially since some parts of the story vary between different versions, so we don't exactly know what happened that night, only the gist of it). But I didn't watch the movie, so I can only assume that the number 47 isn't the only thing they kept. Tho I do understand, that seeing fictional elements and foreigner protagonist added to a Japanese story can be seen as a bad thing, and I don't necessarily disagree. This story definitely does deserve a completely faithful depiction.
