Finally realised my 40 year ambition of Porsche ownership with a 1997 Boxster a couple of months ago. Amazing car. I will never sell it.

Love my 98 2.5 Omw it now for 3 years as a daily, it has 200k km on the clock. Just a pleasure. Thanks to u-tubers service it myself, easy and cheap although 9 liter synthetic oil the most expensive item . Reconditioned starter. Cost nothing but about 5 hours labor over three days. Be hesitant if you have to rely on dealers, otherwise excellent value for fun

I went for the BMW Z4 last year and though a true sports car it was tinny and had run flat tyres, which sounds good unless you get a puncture, which may be an odd thing to say. After 3 months I traded it in the for 2001 Boxster S and the difference is significant not only in performance, driving position and handling, but the build quality is superior by a far. I have also recently had a 3 Series Beamer, which was very solid, but the Z4 was just rattly and tinny and didn't inspire confidence. Plus the Boxster exhaust note is a joy. However, as I am not a purist, I would have liked the Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system option as it is all too easy to lose the "S" in the wet, with only a little throttle on a bend. The Z4 has it as standard. One odd thing about Boxsters bound for the British market is that, though having a lense and bulb holder fitted for a rear nearside fog light, it is not wired up!!

I never thought I'd want a Boxster. Ive always thought they where kinda girly looking. Too small, too slow, and too expensive. Then I drove one and none of that mattered. I thought these presenters where just blowing smoke about how good it is. But it really is that good. In the used sports car market, the Corvette is the only other serious choice but you would have to seriously compromise reason to drive it everyday. The Boxster manages to be both daily driver and supercar for 20k used. Im sold

This is an older vid, bought I bought my 2000 Boxster 2.7L in late 2010 for $9700. I have taken it autox, to the race track, and I drive it hard everyday. It is an amazingly fun car I always enjoy driving. The exhaust noise turns everyones head.

Great great car, do the work yourself and anyone can own one. Whether you are 24 or 84 you will love owning and driving one. The in famous IMS bearing IS something you should change out with your clutch job but otherwise the car is very reliable and EXCEPTIONALLY fun to drive. Light intuitive stearing, plenty of get up and go, and that balance of mid engine is addicting. I recommend 1997-1999 986 for the original 986's

I bought a 1997 with 24000 miles at an estate sale for 5,000$ because it ‘wouldn’t run’ Gas was 8 years old and had a dead battery. New battery. 2 tanks of gas. Runs like new.
