Biggest takeaway honestly is where you explained that one should not make it a me show, but instead make it a This is How I Would Solve Your Problem show. That is the mindset change that I picked up from this episode.

If you don’t have the skills or experience for the job you want to have the confidence to succeed at the interview, create your own version of the job to do the things you need for the job and boom, you have professional experience.

My only question is, where do you practice these skills prior to getting a job? It’s one thing to learn, it’s another to demonstrate

Heard back from 0. I've followed your video with Qualys and got certified in what you recommended (policy, pci, vmdr, patch , scan) and apply at least to 2 a day on average on LinkedIn and Dice. Updated my resume but still heard back from nobody other than rejection emails. I'm also doing outside skills like learning python, internships,... would love some extra input on what I can do to improve what I'm doing or what I may be doing wrong. -McArthur
@Zach-bc7xiАй бұрын
did you really say 2 a day? get real bro, in this market you should be applying to 100 a day. you are also just saying you are learning python, you sound like a beginner to this field not even entry level. Keep working on your skills Mcarthur, you have quite a bit to go.
@Zach-bc7xiАй бұрын
for context i've been a software engineer for 8 years and transitioned to cyber recently, You need real experience with python if you wanted to ever do anything with it professionally. I'm talking skills building applications. You need another couple of years before people are reaching out to you. 5+ in my opinion

Something I recently learned is the applicants that apply on the job boards hardly ever even get looked at, and if they do get looked at, it's the last place recruiters typically look. The advice was to use the job boards to find the jobs but then go directly to the company's site and apply there. THEN, try to find a recruiter for the company and reach out to them for further exposure. Something like "Hi, my name is Blah. I'm very interested in X role I've applied for. I think I'm a good fit because of these reasons. Would love the opportunity to discuss. Is it possible you can connect me with the recruiter or the hiring manager for the role?"

Not in the Cybersecurity field but this mindset and perspective is still very valuable 💎

Now, I just have to focus on boot camp labs and finish qualys, familiarize myself with dfd software, and learn diss systems

Really like this video - however I do have one question - at 13:06 you say: "if they do not have the confidence based on that little conversation you all had right here, they are not moving you to the interview"; which makes sense - however what if they do move you to the interview and the company that is interviewing decides not to move forward with the interview; would that be a communication issue from the recruiter to the company? I ask because that seems to have happened to me on several occasions where a recruiter has reached out to me and has spoken to me then supposedly forwarded my information to the hiring manager only to call me back in two weeks and inform me that the hiring manager has decided not to move forward with the interview. As for the phone people in Costco or Sam's Club - I just tell them I am not interested.

So, you’re saying to focus more on who is hiring and their needs? Why do companies ask so many questions about your experience and skills if it’s already on your resume?

Can I realistically gain the skills posted in $150K+ jobs and attract serious attention without previous experience?
@BoydClewisАй бұрын
Realistically, you need hands-on experience. Confidence is key, and it’s hard to be confident in something you’ve only studied but haven’t practiced. In job interviews, confidence is crucial. My advice is to focus on gaining experience first-over time, this will position you for those high-paying roles.

@BoydClewisАй бұрын
You can check your local job boards and read the requirements for the positions. Then find the training to get any of the skills you lack
