This movie was suppose to be SOOO MUCH BIGGER a film than it was!! Just the genius of the time it took and the concept. OMG.. This went straight to the heart strings and just strummed. It was sheer Genius!!! Loved It!!!!!

Very good movie, story, message and cast. seems like everything worked out perfectly for this movie to have come out so good. Somehow i feel like there was a missed opportunity they could have also made a movie "girlhood" at the same time obviously in the perspective of the sister i liked her character, love to have seen the contrast between the two...i mean 12yrs. who would make that movie again?

The one failing of this movie is that the sister character ended up fading into obscurity towards the end, in striking contrast to every other major character. This bothered me quite a bit when I first watched the movie and it still does watching it for the second time six years later. I understand that the actress (the director's daughter) had asked that her character be killed off, but it doesn't make it any less unfortunate. I think that the viewer who's already persevered throughout the movie's final length could have handled half an hour more of material and would have derived double the feeling of hope and satisfaction from witnessing two children grow up in front of their eyes instead of one and a half. Indeed when the movie ends, the viewer is already so invested that they probably wouldn't mind following Mason all the way through colledge.

But honestly, I think once you graduate and you go off to college that’s the end of boyhood that’s when you become an adult and you transfer into adulthood maybe if they could make a movie called adulthood but I think 12 years is long enough
